Thank you Robert – for the information! It looked like to me a big 'Gala Event' and so it was! Is it Katherine Grayson – would you know? In this case quite possible being a big MGM star? To me it looks like her but not sure.
I wonder with whom Nora was at this event? They must have split partners and Nora would be with another MGM star? Then maybe they did not go to events as husband and wife anymore as they were divorced on July 7th of this year.
I also wonder if they filmed those big Hollywood events and if there would be a place today one could see them? Would be great if they would make DVD's out of them too.
I love those big Galas!
Thanks,
Tina

It was filmed and you can see it on the bonus disc included in the “That's Entertainment! The Complete Collection” DVD.

Btw, it is Katherine Grayson. And Nora wouldn't necessarily be with Errol at that function considering their marriage was about to fizzle out.

Thanks Robert;
I thought that it is Katherine Grayson, but I was not 100% sure.
Also thank you for the tip to get “That's Entertainment”
You are right – Nora was on her way out!
Thanks for all the info!

Thanks to Robert's explanation of the event I googled the Anniversary and found this great link I wish to share with you all.
www.oldmovieexhibition.com…
On the left side search just scroll down to “Flynn Errol” and there is a lot of information about him. 36 different segments. Funny enough the name search tab starts with “Aadland Beverly”
There is also a tab for Sean and many others – enjoy and have fun!

Tina! Loved, loved, loved the links. So much information and pictures galore. Why did Roddy McD put the gabash on showing William Tell after he donated it?

Hi Kathleen;
Great to see you on the blog again!
I am glad you are enjoying the link! I was very please to find it and all due to Robert identifying the picture. I will google more with this Anniversary title, maybe I find more. Right now I am just pressed for time, I am only on the computer when the contractor wants me to get out of his hair! Hahaha!
I have no idea why Roddy put the KIBOSH (wow – a new word for me) on William Tell? Maybe somebody has an inside on that? I wonder how HE even got to this film on the first place and what RIGHTS has he to do this. IS HE FRIEND OR FOE? One would think Patrice Wymore would have the rights!
I wonder how this all works in good old Hollywood, most peculiar to say the least! It seems that so many people have always their hands in a pie! A strange business – like wolves tearing voraciously on one piece of meat.
Maybe other members of our blog have some inside to this kind of workings? Would be nice to know, but most likely a much to long story.
All the best to you and hubby,
Tina

I don't know which article you refer to, but I think, after looking through them, it must be “One Hundred EF Years”. It is clearly stated there that Patrice holds the rights to William Tell. However, as RMD “purchased” the negative (this, already, is a mystery in itself and only rumours exist, as far as I know), he donated it to Boston University – under the condition that it remain unshown (?) until the year 2100. I also wondered how he was able to make such a stipulation, but that's as it is! The legal entanglements here have never become clear to me, but that's as far as I learned it from our good old Ralph a long time ago. He was so kind and told me a lot about William Tell, and I hope he does not mind telling this here. When he is around again, I think he can explain it in a much better way. Probably Robert can do so, too.

Hi Inga,
Thanks for the great info and maybe, as you say, Ralph can shed the REAL light on it!
Wow – not to be shown until 2100 that is just the oddest thing I ever heard. Who will be around? Will the earth be still in the same place? I sincerely hope that Errol's memory will be still intact too!
I always say that I would love to come back in 100 or 150 years to have a look what's going on, now I know I have to come back, if for nothing else, just to see William Tell!
We better start recruiting very young people to our blog to bring it into the future – 89 years is not just a few years!
If Pat has the rights why is she not releasing it? She has the rights and RMD has the negative? Who has a positive – Pat? Or she has rights without the film? This is such a mixed up cup of tea that it is more like a Gulasch – Gulyas a real spicy Hungarian one!
Thank for sharing this with us!
Have a great day,
Tina

Yes, it IS very difficult. With negative I meant the footage, don't know if it's negative or positive. It's a real shame that there is this stipulation, I never really saw why this could happen under American law.

This kind of reasoning escapes me totally and my sense of reality!
It's a strange world and maybe a lot of cuckoos in it!

Hi Tina. I sent you an email w/picture of my remodel–did you get it? I guess the William Tell footage that is locked away at the university is much more than what we get to see in the documentaries. Does it have sound–isn't that missing too? By 2100 what will the world be like and will anyone have an interest. Hmmm, 75+ years since Captain Blood and I'm here and interested. Hmmm, hmmm, hmmm.

Yes, the soundtrack is lost, so it is silent material. And it is supposed the entire material that was shot, about half and hour of cut footage plus outtakes etc… maybe we should sign a petition for earlier release.

Hi Kathleen;
Yes, I did see it – very, very nice! I am running around for tiles, lights and who knows what – time is running out on me, I'll be in touch!
About William Tell, I think this is very unfair being locked away! What could be the reason for such an unfair action? I am aware the soundtrack is in cyberspace floating around and I am sure somebody has it. I am really wondering what is behind all of this, who is really pushing the buttons and why create such a silly mystery? What is the reason and or the politics behind all this? Sounds like a real war story to me – like who is getting whom by the neck!
But on the other end Errol has survived that long and as you quote rightly so, he will survive this one too! Will we? I don't think so!
Question is, is this all created to the advantage or disadvantage of Errol? Is friend or foe at play? That is the big question? Reminds me on the quote of Sir Walter Scott: ''Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive''
It's late for me I have to hit the hay, another hard day coming up for me!
All my best wishes to you!
Tina

Hi Inga;
You are right we should get a hold of RMD and tell him how we feel and asked for some answers to clarify this mystery!
Question is how do we get a hold of him to present this petition? Any ideas? You seem to be the person with this inside track having contacted stars and received autographs etc. I wouldn't know where to start even if my life depends on it? You are the savvy person give us a hint how you do all this!
All I can say let's get started – I for one am behind you!
You have all my support come hell or high water!
All the very best,
Tina

Well, Tina, contacting RMD will be impossible even for me – he died in 1998. The only chance would be to contact Boston Uni where the footage is kept, but I think this has been done before and I believe that Flynn experts have tried to do something about it – without success. And I also think that you could theoretically go there and watch the footage privately – not sure though. I hope that Ralph will give us some insight once he has a little time. He is the expert on this subject.

I found the video footage of Errol at the MGM 25th Anniversary luncheon — you can watch it on YouTube.
The video is called “MGM's 25th Anniversary (1949)” and it's 10 min and 14 seconds long.
Here's the URL:

Wow Rachel, what a great great find! Loved watching it! But does MGM call this organisation? That was so funny, Errol expected being called to the stage twice but then he had to let the ladies pass and then went without being announced!?! Now what a blunder! Poor guy. And later while eating, he's watching out for the camera all the time. Greer Garson next to him looks as if she's wearing a costume from their film together… ayayay. Thanks so much Rachel, really enjoyed it!

Hi Inga;
That just shows you what I know?!? In that case Errol could talk personally with him – !!!
I have heard that one possibly could view it at the Boston University. We have to contact the Uni and find out the regulations for viewing involved. I wonder why Ralph is not around?

Hi Rachel;
What a great find I just finished watching it! It is a very nice presentation I have to watch it a couple more times. Errol making a mistake at the entrance is funny and getting introduced as “Katherine Grayson and Katherine Grayson”. The camera sure rolled over him several times, which is wonderful. Not being a MGM star this is very nice to see.
Great find Rachel – keep them coming!
All the best to you,
Tina

Thanks, Inga and Tina! Knew you'd enjoy watching it — so did I. :-) Yeah, it was funny how Errol had 2 “false starts” going up on stage (still wonder if George Murphy actually announced Errol's name or not.. maybe he did but it was somehow edited out of this particular video?) And it was indeed interesting watching Errol at the table next to Greer Garson.

And does anyone here feel as sad as I do for Flynn's daughter, Lara, and the awful plastic surgery she's had done on her face?

Hi Robert;
Errol's daughter Lara? Never heard of her? Could you be so kind and embellish a little on this news? Wow! Who is the mother? Plastic surgery? It is awful when plastic surgery goes wrong. Do you have a picture of her before plastic surgery? What other detail do you have? I for one and I am sure other who are not on the “in” with this one would like to know more – lots more.
Keep us up to date please!

Rachel, thanks for posting the link and finding it in the first place. Did Errol even get an introduction he was being such a gentleman in helping the ladies. Great to see the other stars too, Angela Landsbury is still acting and there she is an 18 year old kid. Good stuff!

Robert – Robert you are a prankster too – naughty – naughty!
I always knew Errol had great qualities but I never heard that he performed Miracles?
You are portraying Lara Flynn Boyle who was born on March 24th, 1970 to 21 year old Sally Boyle who was born in 1949. If he was sweet with Sally as a 10 year old – 1959 – she sure was the youngest mother with the longest pregnancy!
A definite record for the book of Guinness!
