Is this Errol?

25 May

Is this really Errol?
Would anybody know if this is Errol?
If it is – who is the lady?
What is it in context with or the purpose of this picture?
It looks like a car commercial – could it be?
Did Errol advertise products?

    I think it is Errol, I just look up a similar photo in the book “The two lives of Errol Flynn”, and he stands there with Lili leaning against his car which has his initials on it, and the pictures was taken in 1935 although they wear different clothes.
    This is all a wild guess, nothing certain.

    It is Errol and Lili, I have the same pic and took down the caption: you can see here a 1931 Chrysler DeLuxe Eight Coupé. Errol did not necessarily advertise it, but he simply liked to pose with cars… remember the one picture where he was very young posing with a car which wasn't even his…

    Errol did advertize products and I think some of this was studio generated, at first, but later, he appeared in advertizements for such things as alcohol, and cigarillos!

    I don't think it is Lili – somehow it does not look like her. Looking at the pictures of Diane Dill, it looks like more Diane than Lili to me. But…
    He did go out with her before she married Kirk Douglas and became the mother of Michael.
    I wonder what our other members think who the lady could be?
    Errol posing in this way is quite familiar – so it is Errol? hm – hm! It looks like him, but his mustache and the hat is very strange. Errol did love cars and I know that the one in the picture is a 1931 Chrysler DeLuxe Eight Coupé.
    Would be nice to know more about it!

    Very interesting David! It seems that this happened rather late in his carrier that he lend his name to advertising some goods. I always wondered about his endorsement of golf clubs as he never played golf. Or did he?

    I don't think golf was Errol's “thing” chasing a little ball for miles on end until one reaches rather exhausted at the 19th hole at the club house. I gather that Errol would prefer to conserve his enormous energy and observe golfers from the club house terrace sipping his favourite drinks and see them struggling along the fairways dealing with the enormous strain on the players cursing the ball being “hooked or sliced” instead of themselves. No, I think Errol did the right thing after all who with full energy and bravado went the extra mile instead and preferred chasing skirts and concentrated on other ball games. Bless him!

    It is Errol. That is, only if he borrowed someone else's ears.

      The picture there is a little sharper, but would Errol have been able to afford such a car in 1932?

        Hi Inga;
        As Errol was still New Guinea in 1932 I would say the car is a 1932 model but the year the picture was taken must have been 1935 – 1936? Maybe an advertising of a used car dealer and Errol and the girl are the “come on – buy the car” hahaha. In my humble opinion the girl is not Lili! It must be from a time when Errol was not famous before December 1935, I would say. I doubt that he would have done it after Captain Blood. But who knows? Or the car belonged to a friend and Errol posed with a girl in front of it. Don’t lets forget Errol loved cars and it could have been a fantastic car in those days. As always who knows the real thing -but Errol and we can’t ask him!

          if we look at the discussion above, I think it was Robert who doubted that it was Errol… We know that he hated hats, why would he wear one there? I simply don’t know if it’s him… and why would he pose with another girl… girlfriend at the time, before Lili? Very difficult!!!

      Hi Mary Ann;
      What a great find! That sure is proof that it is Errol!
      But I doubt that the girl is Lili?

        I would not say that it is real prrof because we know that people often select Errol “to be important”… Just look at ebay, how many photos there are where people claim it’s Errol and it is NOT…

      Hi Mary Ann;
      On the website it says “Errol Flynn and HIS Imperial” and as the webpage is titled “1932 Chrysler Imperial Factory and Publicity Photos” it just maybe a Chrysler publicity photo when he bought the car. Maybe it was his first car – could have been! Just a guess – as always!
