This is what I found on Bes Mudi, Errol’s cat and Zaca Mascot…..
Errol was such an animal lover. Bes Mudi was the first cat that I knew of that he had. Here is the link:www.pictures-of-cats.org…

Hi Mary Ann;
You are right in all counts, but the picture in this article is the wrong way around! Here is the correct side of the picture:

Hi Steve and Genene;
Errol did have a cat called Bes Mudi, she was a gift from his make-up man Ward Hamilton and she had a famous family tree of distinction for Siamese cats. The ancestry of Bes Mudi:
Her mother was Mei Ling and her father was Ah Fui. Mei Ling’s sire was Brant’s Prince Chan who came out of the Double International champion, Si Mingo and on it goes. Siamese cats have these kind of names maybe from the Siamese language – just a guess. I am ignorant about this subject.
In regards to Bes Nove it was most likely “Besnovitch” that was either a different cat he or Nora had or it was another name Errol or Nora gave to Bes Mudi – not sure. And – no – Mudi does not mean sh@t, at least not in this case!

Hi Mary Ann;
I know this picture is very often – mostly – the wrong way around.
I have no idea why this is done with many other pictures too.
Even the cover picture of of him of the book “The Spy Who Never Was’ by Tony Thomas.
Take care!

Hi one and all. A friend of ours had a restaurant here in Hobart called Bes Mudi and said that it was after Errol’s cat. Our research could not find a cat called Bes Mudi but Bes Nove. During our efforts we discovered that the word Mudi was sh@t in another language so if Errol did have a cat called Bes Mudi surely it meant “the sh@t” as this was a word that Errol used frequently, or so we are led to believe. We would like to hear if any one has researched this and found the cats name or did he have two cats at some time? The first time we saw this picture it was in a film annual and I believe this is when we first saw it as Bes Nove. We will attempt to post two pics that we have of the cat with one showing the professor with Errol and the cat.

Thanks Tina for your info. It was about nine years ago that we were looking at this and the research material was not as it is today. I have managed to upload the pictures that I mentioned into the photo album.

Thank u for posting more Tina. I had read that Besnovitch and Bes Nov was nicknames that Errol gave Bes Mudi. She was given to Errol by his make-up guy, Ward Hamilton.

Hi Mary Ann;
I am familiar with Besnovitch but not Bes Nov! I think it just means all the same thing.
