Errol Flynn Costumes Recycled for 'The Tudors'

16 Dec

So if any of you are fans of the TV series The Tudors you may be happy to hear that costumes from films such as The Private Lives of Elizabeth & Essex and The Sea Hawk may have been re-used for some of the costumes worn by Jonathan Rhys Meyers in the role of young Henry VIII.

Joan Bergin, the costume designer for 'The Tudors' –

“So, we've brought in dresses from Krakow, Madrid, Lithuania, London, LA. In fact, I discovered a huge trove of costumes from a 1930s Errol Flynn film which I found when I was costuming The Prestige in Hollywood. It was an enormous stroke of luck because they were perfect for the period and have the wonderful craftsmanship and attention to detail you'd expect from the Studio Era. And, in fact, Jonathan wears some of Flynn's refurbished costumes.”

I however have not come across any that have stood out or that I recognised from Flynn's movies, but if anyone see's/knows, I'd love to know!

    Very cool, thanks for sharing this info, Sam.
    Btw, is it only me again who is experiencing trouble with the blog? When I open the site, there are only two articles to be seen??

    I don't know why but some browsers have in the past not shown all of the articles! They have left out some of them plainly visible in other browsers, and it was a problem for awhile. Why only two would show up is a total mystery… try a different browser and see if they appear normally? I am seeing everything in Firefox on my PC…

    David, you are right, in Firefox it works, but it is strange nevertheless and I am apparently not the only one with this problem on i-explorer. I first thought that maybe Volker in his post ticked an uncommon box because it happened after he had posted his article. But since it works on Firefox… Bizarre.

    I checked this out in IE 9 and see only the first three articles on the Main Page of the blog. I checked into a solution and found this:
    1.Close all Internet Explorer windows
    2.Click Start-> Control Panel->Network and Internet-> Internet Options
    3.Click the Advanced tab
    4.Check the Use software rendering instead of GPU rendering checkbox
    5.Click Apply and then click OK
    6.Restart Internet Explorer
    However, this was already a default setting in IE 9 for me and and had no affect on the situation… no joy!
    How strange!

    Today EVERYTHING is gone under iexplorer! Only the grey parts can be seen and they are strangely extended! I could not even comment. Under Firefox it is okay, but what is going wrong?

    Everybody is complaining about how terrible IE9 is! I imagine they are trying various fixes but what a mess it is!

    Hi Sam;
    Good to hear from you!
    Am I missing here something – I am confused and please put me into the right thinking mode?
    Are you saying that out of Errol's Essex costume they made the black one as seen in your picture?
