The one thought that comes to mind is something that Jack Warner said many years ago about Errol.
“He was all the heroes in one magnificent, sexy, animal package…he showered an audience with sparks, when he laughed, when he fought, or when he loved. I just wish we had someone around today half as good as Flynn.”
This celebration video captures that statement and I hope that next year or at the latest 2014, Errol gets the Oscar he most certainly deserves.
Jim, did you read all the questions/comments regarding your book that were made on the post with which you were introduced and in the post on your book? When you have some time, maybe you could have a look, there were a few open questions. Would be great if you could answer. Thanks.
Jim, wasn’t a campaign to have Errol recognized with an Oscar for his body of film work already rejected by the Academy? If you look at Rory Flynn’s “In Like Flynn” Web site she notes this. Lynn
Yes, you are correct, however the Academy has many new members and there are Oscars giving for lifetime achievements as well as new specific categories. The purpose of my book was to introduce all the new generations of movie fans to Errol’s body of work. I also plan to have as many influential Hollywood types join in the Quest for an Oscar. I want to have Errol back in the spotlight where he truely belongs, right up there with Marilyn, James Dean and Elvis. It is going to take a lot of work but I am up for the task, I will keep everyone updated when I get confirmation on magazine covers with Errol on the cover, as of today to
Robert, did you take the music from the film directly? I just love that theme from Escape Me Never, but it’s hard to get. I was disappointed by the CD from amazon, there’s more Another Dawn on it…
It’s from the 1972 RCA recording, “The Sea Hawk: The Classic Film Scores of Erich Wolfgang Korngold” (the first in their incomparable film score series). The album has recently been remastered and sounds exquisite.
There many more tribute videos on this blog somewhere, at least they used to be before David had to change Host Provider. When you go through some of the old posts you will find “Anonymous” instead of any authors’ names. All the names of the contributing members were lost in the transition. Which is sad but could not be helped.
I have to write to David to put the videos back on the Blog.
For starters here is a two part tribute video I made in 2009 for the 50th anniversary of his passing
You can see all of them under my You Tube Name = Bariebel and so you can see Inga’s under her YT name Aresia99. Have fun!
Hi Tim;
Thank you for your compliment very much appreciated I enjoyed making them. BUT Inga is the real pro in making videos. I love the all but my real favorite is the black and white “Lilacs in the Spring” – Errol is singing and she put the pictures so wonderfully to the text – just outstanding!

Or, today – a quarter as good!
The Academy should name an award AFTER Flynn – “The Errol” perhaps – given to the most exciting adventure actor of the year.
