Where the Boy Was

11 Jun

Photos taken this morning where Sean had his first movie role.

And a couple of images from a quarter mile away, approximately where Errol used to leave from on fishing trips in the 30s & 40s, now the location of the (Swimming) Hall of Fame Marina:

This was shot at Las Olas & A1A, the beach location shown above. Shown a few times in the below trailer, also, along with the Elbo Room across the street and, as the photos above show, still there today! (Connie Francis moved down to the Lauderdal area years ago and every once in a while I’ll see her out and about at some of the best places for music on the beach, once even singing unexpectedly. I know her boyfriend as an acquaintence – he’s a sensational singer & performer, does Tom Jones, Ray Charles, Frankie Valli, all incredible.

Thank you, Gentlemen Tim for posting such interesting photos! I’d seen the one of George and Sean on location for “Where the Boys Are”, but was not aware of where it was actually shot. George of course was responsible for Sean being in the film and wrote a great tribute to his friend which was published in Rory Flynn’s loving tribute to “The Baron of Mulholland”! –A. R.

My pleasure, A.R. By unexpected coincidence, I went right by Sean’s old place on Palm Beach this afternoon… There was a story on the net once about some people seeing Sean at a party when he was in Lauderdale filming. Can’t find it now. I may need a higher clearance.

It is always a joy to see, even having seen many times, Errol with his boy, because in every photo, his smile is so heartfelt that one can sense what a proud father he was. Thus worthy of re-posting.
