I think this was taken in 1949 during Errol’s filming of “That Forsyte Woman”. Alexis was filming “Any Number Can Play” with Clark Gable. I only say that because I did find a photo of her from the movie wearing that same dress. Must have been some funny conversation!

What a wonderful photo, Maria – one which really confirms the great friendship they had, I think probably one of the two best female friendships Errol refers to in MWWW, the other being Ida Lupino. It’s very touching how Errol finally revealed his love for and to her.
And it all started with Miss Smith refusing to kiss him! Bet Errol wasn’t used to that! Heck, she even shot him in Montana, an ending I still can’t believe. She sure didnt appear to ever be very sheepish with Errol.

I especially love her in Gentleman Jim.

Errol looked so much older and mature in that film than he had before. Yet I see this picture of him smiling and he looks so youthful and vibrant.

Zacal, you have it! It was acting! Very good acting on Errol Flynn’s part in ‘That Forsyte woman’. Alexis Smith was on loan to MGM for the Clark Gable film the same time as Flynn. Ralph Schiller
