Wonderful, daringthorpe. Thank you. I have never seen so much footage of Errol at the Command Performance of 1949.
Btw, this puts the ever-rebellious Errol in England circa the time of Ireland deposing King George from his former position as King over Eire. Just a coincidence I’m sure. … From London, the Flynnster, Fu Man Shu in tow, trekked to India, where they too had relatively recently shaked the shackles of GB’s imperial colonialism. Flynnstant Karma perhaps.

From The Mercury of Hobart, for fans of Ladies’ fashions, a detailed account on who wore what at the Royal Command Performance of ’49:

You bet! I just finished reading the “Reluctant King” George VI -quite the man who rose to the challenge after the Duke of Windsor abdicated the throne. He loved the arts and I am sure loved the command performances. I was hoping for a mention of Errol (respect the Duke of Windsor) but nothing mentioned – Ok by me!

And Richard Todd played Robin Hood for Disney I believe.

Yes those were the days. I also noticed how Mr Flynn seemed to be camera shy not trying to take up too much of the limelight

I think that Errol would have had tremendous respect for the Crown and behaved accordingly. It is in the blood! Errol had manners for sure!

Ahh the Rogue meets the Queen! Errol was perfect for Elizabeth and Essex. Imagine a boy from Hobart in Tasmania, born into an interesting but slightly dysfunctional family. Rebelling time and again. Adventuring much of half the world, Then becoming a prime actor to meet the Queen, King And Princesses of England in his Prime years of his 40’s. What a life written in so many facets! No wonder he’s such a legend and a match for Sir Richard Francis Burton!
