Why was Errol maligned so much by the media and some authors alike? All because of womanizing or his practical jokes? What otherwise did he do so wrong to deserve all this slander and mockery he had to endure?
He never attacked anybody unless he defended himself. He was a great charmer! He had great manners! He did no real harm to anybody!
What is your opinion and or inside information?
Below is one opinion by Luis Kraft:
Unscrupulous writer-historians and how they dupe their readers▪
I) I’ve struggled trying to decide if I should be vague or be specific and take people to task who push their agendas at the cost of truth. They create fictions and lies and often their cited documentation is a fabrication or worse. There is a war going on and I’m in the middle of it. If I opt for the second approach all hell will break out (at least for me).
II) It is now looking like this blog will become two blogs: 1) Indian wars, and 2) Film history. Reason: Information blasted over social media often deals with my very small world of historical research and writing. Some of the information I’m stumbling upon online and reading in printed form is shocking. Unfortunately people (I can’t call them historians; if I did I would choke) gobble up this misinformation and reprint it as if it is fact.

Petty jealousy among many Tinseltown elites of his profound talents and success. Anger and embarrassment by many in Hollywood’s power structure that he openly defied their professed authority and superiority. Widespread dissemination of false, ill-informed attacks on his character and unsurpassed achievements, manufactured by a small pack of malicious low-lifes, perpetuated by an irresponsible media, and devoured by a culture addicted to and consumed by libelous sensationalism.
To the Moguls and Establishment he spoke Treason:

In truth, all of them have wanted to be Flynn, or his girl. They were desperately envious they could never be. So, some of the sicker ones have tried to destroy him, quite unsuccessfully.

This is another photo of my dad’s twin in their 40’s!
As for the chief maligner, Hogham, Oh did I spell that wrong? Dang! I read that book and was physically sick even though I trudged through it, thinking what kind of strange dangerous stalker full of envy and venom would write this? I tore out all the photos and tossed the rag away. As for opinions, yes Louis has many ..LOL! I like that and people that speak their mind!!

Don’t forget slanderous David Bret timerider – Satan’s Angel.
But we know about these two authors other opinions, feelings, impressions and thoughts would be great.

Ah yes why was Errol Flynn maligned so much? that is the sixty four million dollar question. In my opinion Society has never been kind to people who don’t “conform” Errol Flynn played by his own rules. He wasn’t afraid to speak as he found, example his opinion on Castro and Cuba which I don’t think went down too well with anyone back in the U.S.A. Another point , he was the perfect scapegoat for all of Hollywood’s peccadilloes and scandals unfortunately for him it was just too easy to bring this man’s reputation down and as they say the sin is not the deed it is in getting caught and last but not least money scandal and titillation make more money than anything so if someone can make a quick buck off someone else’s back they will. That my fellow Flynn Fans is why I think this MORTAL human being is so maligned.

Hi daingthorpe;
Your thoughts are right on and profound.
It is so very sad that the media around famous people of any kind loves to lives of mudslinging news and if they can’t find any they make it up with Innuendoes and or twisted truth.

I saw a movie last night and at least to me – a very true profound dialog took place, which reminded me of Errol’s situation of the malignancy he had to endure after the trial for the rest of his life.
“We people are very strange once dirt is slang at a person most of us will never quite think the same of this person again, it has a sticking effect, one never can wash it off.”
I thought how true and that is really the essence in character assasination.
