Dear fellow Flynn fans,
here is a humorous account about that fightful night when the Baron squared off against the Huston.
Not even Lady Livvie knew what the fuss was all about- if Errol got nasty and John saved the honour of his maid of the hour.
What we know for sure is, that both didn`t pull any punches and sealed a life long friendship sending each other to the hospital.
The bout turned bond and the motive may forever remain a mystery.
What is your educated guess?
Enjoy,

Hola Herr Heinz:
I believe most or at least many accounts have it that this epic event was sparked over something Errol said to Huston about the divine Ms. DeHavilland. However, the time and circumstances may support that this legendary fight actually involved Rory’s Mom, Nora, not Livvie.
How these two both superb boxers fared in these fisticuffs is also uncertain. I suppose Errol prevailed, though Huston, a very skilled pugilist, put up a valiant fight:

“John Huston’s autobiography includes a lively account of a fistfight he instituted with Flynn at a party after the latter made a disparaging remark about a woman of his acquaintance. The original slight was soon forgotten as they launched into a scrap that, according to Huston, lasted an hour, put both men in hospital and “was conducted strictly according to Queensbury, for which I take my hat off to Errol Flynn.” They both enjoyed themselves thoroughly.”
Could Huston handle Flynn?
Quite a reach!

I know that Olivia was dating Huston at the time of that famous fight.

I remember seeing an interview with a couple of boxers and trainers that were reviewing the movie ” Gentleman Jim ” and they all agreed Errol’s moves and footwork were not Hollywood, but those of a real fighter; I know he did some amateur boxing before he came to Hollywood, so he probably gave Houston as good as he got!

I agree, Gene. My money would have been on Flynn, I would have been in his corner. BUT, Huston vs. Flynn at Selznick Arena must have been a spectacle, a real knock-down, drag-out, old-style Irish brawl. A perfect topic for St. Patty’s Day.
