It was tons of fun, cocoaheinz (except during fires and perhaps assassinations). See the very popular and quotabe Cisco Kid Carrillo masterfully quoting pop poet Vagabond Don Blanding in this very colorful star-studded pre-Flynnian MGM Colortone clip featuring some of Errol’s soon-to-be Tinsel Town amigos:

      HOLLYWOOD

      Hollywood, Hollywood…
      Fabulous Hollywood…
      Celluloid Babylon,
      Glorious, glamorour…
      City delirious,
      Frivolous, serious…
      Bold and ambitious,
      And vicious and glamorous.
      Drama – a city full,
      Tragic and pityful…
      Bunk, junk and genius
      Amazingly blended…
      Tawdry, tremendous,
      Absurd, stupendous;
      Shoddy and cheap,
      And astonishingly splendid…
      HOLLYWOOD!!

Minnie’s boys made everybody going loco in La La Land. Which wasn’t too hard a job in Hollyweird. Now maybe I can drive you crazy, Gentlemarx Tim…what is the connection of The cocoanuts & our man Flynn?

Let’s see, lalaheinz. There is future director Robert Florey, future co-stars Kay Francis and Barton McLane, and future Marx Brother friends. And I believe he may have dated all but one of the Hotel de Cocoanut hostesses, one not having the proper-sized ankles.

Are any of those the answer you’re looking for? …. No? … Then how about the fact that Errol managed a copra plantation on the property, after the Florida Boom went Bust circa 28?

Here are some photos of the third version of The Flynns at a Cocoanut Grove Golden Globe Awards Show:

The answer came in a hurry: Rob Florey!

Ah, yes, hollywoodhistoryheinz, the flurry of flaktivity yesterday dovetail’s well with Florey’s story. Despite his B-level direction, Errol still made it to Captain B. The moral of Florey’s story is: Don’t Bet on B’s, unless it’s the future Captain B.
