A Chiki Hi from Chiki Jai

13 Oct

Hola from Becki on our right and Anita on our left!!

From an old South of the Border haunt of Hemingway, Gardner, Hayworth and Flynn.

Famous for paella and its old Hollywood, bullfight and jai lai crowds, the food remains sensational. Being there before paella time, I had the calamari steak, which was muy, muy, muy sabroso – the best I ever had.

Becki and Anita are fantastic and couldn’t believe how handsome Flynn was and how beautiful Ava was during their Chiki Jai heydays.

Becki, by the way, says she’s ready to go Hollywood herself, Hollywood agents out there. With looks and a personality reminiscent of Linda Christian, I highly recommend her!

Ah, yes, Zaca. And, as of recently, the renowned Jai Lai Palace, right across the street from Chiki Jai, is a premier music venue, once again bringing international stars to this legendary corner of Mexican (and Basque) culture. Right Next to Tijuana Tilly’s, (and, for viennaheinz especially, catercorner on the other side from the Austrian Consulate.)

That gallup in and to New Mexico is quite a ride from Old Mexico, hopalongheinz. Unfortunately I will therefore on this occasion need to forego staying at the Errol Flynn Room in the legendary El Rancho, instead remaining here (on the border) at the less-than-legendary El Rauncho. … If Errol ever stayed at the El Rauncho here on the border it would have been much later in his career:

Speaking of legends, it is said Errol galluped on horseback into the El Rancho’s saloon for a drink or two.
