“THE VOICE of the (last) Century… who was it?
Sinatra was called it by some.
And for film, another so regarded: Ronald Colman.
But there is also one… long forgotten and overlooked… DESPITE beating out Clark Gable for the best actor in 1939.
And the Oscar went to ROBERT DONAT.
PLEASE do give another look (I mean hear) to this MAGNIFICENTLY subtle and exquisite speaking voice.
His performances on film “tell” the tale, but EVEN MORE SO, home recordings of his poetry readings will all the more impress.
(Stay away from Mp3s, however… to borrow a phrase from the Magnificent McNulty: “They have no soul.”- seek out a better quality format).
Here’s a sample: robert-donat.com…

Very Impressive, Karl! What a talent! Thank you for so wonderfully expanding both our poetic, and noetic, horizons.
