This is flynntastic stuff, David. With Flynn, one never knows. His certainly embellished frequently, and even fabricated here and there, but so have many. What makes Flynn amazing is that the truth that didn’t make it into his bios and autobio, and quasi-bios, was even more astonishing and unbelievable than the fiction and exaggerations.
Here’s another story they really went to Townsville on. … Errol’s romance with Roma Newport. (What a perfect name for one of Errol’s flings!)
Magnetic Island (Maggie) is 52 sq km in size. About 80% is covered by mountains and over half is National Park. Most non residential areas feature big granite boulders, eucalypt forests, and hoop pines, with small patches of rainforest in wetter areas and some mangroves on the western coast. It was a very important defense position in WWII, and now a popular location for retirees, and for commuters employed in Townsville, which is 8km away, 25-minutes by ferry.
