In the top picture, I believe it’s:

Standing Left to Right: William Powell, Spencer Tray, Douglas Fairbanks Jr, Errol Flynn
Seated: Wallace Beery, C. Aubrey Smith

They’re in a nightclub, Ciro’s I believe; and the six men are cat-calling a beautiful “girl” (aka Groucho) who has just wiggled by.

Very impressive, speedracer! I believe you have the identities correct for all shown in the top photo, though I have seen one citation claiming the fellow next to Errol is Ronald Coleman, rather than D.F. Jr.

You have also correctly identified the location as Ciro’s, as it was depicted in Hollywood Steps Out.

With respect to who Errol and his group are gawking at, I believe it was Sally Rand, whereas Clark Gable was independently chasing Groucho in drag all through the niteclub. (Do not have the video to double-check, so you could be right.)

How about those other two? Who are they, and why are they in a quiz about Errol Flynn??

Thank you. I watched this cartoon again after I replied; and I was wrong at who the men are gawking at. They’re ogling the burlesque dancer with the big bubble; not the “girl” that Clark Gable is chasing.

I recognized William Powell and Errol right off the bat. It took a little more looking to determine the others. I’m guessing on the Douglas Fairbanks Jr. It could possibly be his father too? There are so many actors who have a similar look: Douglas Fairbanks Sr, Douglas Fairbanks Jr, Ronald Colman, Brian Aherne… I went for who I thought might be the biggest star at that time.

I believe the gentleman next to Errol is his co-star from “The Sea Hawk”, the great Gilbert Roland.

Looks like you’re right, zacal! Excellente! And the timing fits well, as this cartoon short was released in ’41 apparently, less than a year following Sea Hawk.

Until this year, Mickey Rooney was the last of the stars still living. According to this article – which also includes the film! – they’ve all now gone to “the big movie premier in the
sky”.

I see the resemblance to Roland but have it on good authority that this is Ronald Coleman who would have had a bigger profile (popularity).Karl Holmberg says, You know, there is a long tradition of dark, mustached types that GENERALLY look alike: Douglas Fairbanks Sr, Ramon Navarro, Norman Kerry, John Gilbert, Antonio Moreno, Rod Larocque, William Blakewell (when mustached), Max Linder, Gilbert Roland, Colman, Gable, Flynn…

Regarding the B&W image above, this fabulous artistically-historic, Roger Rabbit-like short holds all the answers – the man’s identity and the connection to Errol. Moreover, it shows some great 1940-era footage of Warner Brother Studios. Look for Leon and listen to Porky.

Musical Inspiration for Film by Errol’s great friend, Rudy Vallee, pictured here at the premier of Santa Fe Trail (the movie, not the actual trail)

Inspired by:

Interesting note: Errol used to ride his horse over to Rudy Valle’s house! – as well as meet up with him at Don the Beachcomber’s & Pirate Den (where they were said to both be part owners), et al.

The B&W fellow was a very merry fellow, though a bit looney.

Regarding the third image. Think a Loin of Beef & Milk of Magnesia, as well as the following fellow:

The third image relates to a movie Errol was in – the only one he was ever in that had the name of an animal in its title.

That’s Great, Rachel! This image holds the answer to the name of the merrie fellow in the B&W photo & video above.

Did you catch the great reference to Errol in the video??

And this clue should help you over the wall wth respect to naming the Errol-related movie in the third photo.
