Sadikichi Hartmann

Found this, thought you might find it interesting, he is buried in Royal Palm South cemetery in St. Petersburg, Florida. He wasn't exactly a friend of Errol's, but an acquaintence, and merited mention in MWWW.

    I agree with Linc: Do you have serfs wandering the world looking for connections to EF? I'm defintely impressed — though I don't remeber him in MWWWs.

    Thanks for podting this great discovrry, Bob. Interestingly, Hartmann was New York’s “King of the Bohemians”, but died in decidedly unBohemian St. Petersburg. Same, decades later, for another prominent Beatnik/Bohemian named Jack Kerouac. Flynn probably admired the talents of each.

    I was just over at Jack Kerouac’s house in St. Pete today, and drove right by Royal Palm Cemetery, which is very close to Kerouac’s place. Im good friends with a local eriter and singer, whose head of the Jack Kerouac Society located here. He has a key to the house, which Kerouac’s in-laws still own. im also very good friends with the owner of the bar where Kerouac regularly drank, and whete he had his last drink. (I have some Great, very rare Kerouac stories from when he was in St. Pete!)

    Sadakichi must have been incredible. He shocked even John Barrymore, when both of them, along with Errol, were “Bundy Drive Boys”. Hard to shock any of that crew!

    I don’t know anyone, or of anyone, who knew Sadakichi in St. Pete. To my knowledge, he was only here in town a couple of days, visiting his daughter here, when he died. Kerouac, though he kept a relatively low profile, lived here many yesrs.
