    I posted this on the old version of the blog, taken during the filming of The Roots of Heaven. Sorry, I can’t recall the name of the hotel! But you are right, Zacal … it was taken in Maroua, Cameroon, in 1958.

    Patrick Leigh Fermor wrote the screenplay for Roots of Heaven, and recalls it.

      Maroua, Maroua! Thanks, David. … Errol sure did get around!

      Here’s some brief but great info on some of Errol’s adventures in Maroua, as welk as a helpful description of it’s geography and volatile 20th Century political history. … Errol was probably risking an amplification of his malarial symptoms in Maroua, and God knows what running those dark alleys out in town!
