The Charge of the Mate Brigade

Dear fellow Flynn fans,

Errol`s inventor- mentor and first director Charles Chauvel launched an all out attack on Tinseltown three years after “Charge” and two before “You must remember this”.

He came up with a very watchable and highly respectable film. See for yourself, it may be deja vue all over again.

One can easily picture Errol in there, leading the Aussie avalanche, if he hadn`t made the big leagues by then.

Enjoy,

    Man, horseheinz, danke schoen. That is one impressive calvary charge – the last in history I just read. (Probably because those 40,000 Aussies wore out every equus north and south of the equator.) … I’ve read once or twice that this film of Chauvel (and Tasman Higgins) was a masterwork, but this is amazing. Dare I say it may even top Curtiz! – and Chauvel probably killed far less than Cruella Curtiz, too. (who didn’t)

    (As always) You’re right: Errol would have been great in this one!

    Fantastic trailer, too!

    I have but one criticism. I only counted 37, 211 horses. Artistic licence, I presume.

    Hi Heinz;
    This is an amazing account of Charles Chauvel!
    It says that he went to Hollywood, I wonder if he and Errol met then, or did they ever meet again after the Bounty?
    Also, Charles Chauvel died only weeks after Errol.
    The picture below is a painting by George Lambert in 1920.
    It depicts – The charge of the Australian Light Horse at Beersheba 0n October 31, 1917.
    Here is another You Tube presentation of the movie, very similar to Micheal Curtiz’s set up shots of his “Charge” of the battle.

      Dear Tina, look what I found.
      Errol and Chauvel probably met again, only years later in England.

        Dear Heinz;
        What a great find you are a genius, just a great shame that there is no date for this article.
        By the way, Errol maybe lived in Kensington too as he only rented accommodations. But to my knowledge he lived in Hampstead another upscale district in London. His address was 15 Church Row, Hampstead, London NW3 and here is the house:

        Keep up your great work unearthing Errol’s life!

          Dear Tina,
          the article appeared on the 12th September of 1954 in the Sundy Times of Perth in Aussielia.
          I wish to unearth the “shipwreck” article of Errol that made Chauvel put him instantly into his “The Wake of the Bounty” film.

      Gloria Victoria, Marching Matilda! Such a clear and cisp version. That in my blogbook is an A+ movie. Errol would have made it either way in the film business. Maybe we can find out, if he met Chauvel in Hollywood too, Tina…

        You are right Heinz, Errol would have made it each way which way as he just was sheer star quality.
        Would be great to find a record of Chauvel meeting Errol in Hollywood.

          Hi Heinz;
          I was googling around the other day and found this site:

          www.foxclassics.com…

          So many nice comments about Errol.
          I thought we should have a category on the blog – maybe like:
          “In praise of Errol”
          and post there how so many other people praise and love him. There are lots blogs on the Internet in which people post their comment and expressing their love and admiration for Errol.
          What do you and others think about that?
