That place you put the photos up of was called The Hollywood Landmark when it was first built in the 50s – I remember when it went in. It kept that name through the 70s as I recall. Not sure when it changed to Hollywood Gardens.

Thank you very much. beachgal. It’s so great to have such personal recollections and contributions!

Reportedly, The Landmark first opened in 1957, with visits from various members of the Rat Pack soon ensuing. I believe Errol stayed there immediately preceding his fateful trip to Vancouver. It’s address (7047 Franklin) has been referred to as his “last home”.

Because Janis Joplin overdosed there (in Room 105) in 1970, there’s some very good film of the old Landmark from that year. Here’s some footage of it (with a reference also to the legendary Barney’s Beanery, one of Errol’s spots – and, btw, where Quentin Tarantino is said to have written much Pulp Fiction.)

I always thought the Garden of Allah (with Woodsie) was his last residence in H’wood. Though he did stay up at Huntington Hartford’s house in 1959. Remember the Landmark well. Bit tacky, but clean.

In this day and age when women are body building with 6 pack abs and toning everything to the max, I kinda remember girls that looked like Bev….HOT! LOL
