Greetings from Curtizblanca

Dear fellow Flynn fans,

as time goes by there is less and less trace of the Hollywood of (g)old. Lately in Budapest, the proud Hungarian capital, I had to learn that Michael Curtiz is a forgotten hero in his hometown. But the beautiful “New York” coffee house is still in place, where the likes of Kertesz, Korda & Gabor did connive and contrive their movie careers in overseas.

Enjoy,

I completely sympathize with you so much of (g)olden Hollywood is gone forever. Having been there recently I was saddened to see how much is gone, but sadly the world turns and we sometimes as mere mortals leave the real treasure behind.

And I totally agree with you, Daring torchpasser, that we all here do a fine job at preserving the memory of our Hollywood hero. Keeping the spirit (glas in hand) alive!

Heinz, thanks for that visit to Budapest. Remember that Bela Lugosi also came from Hungary, although the region he was born in (the town and province he was born in went to Romania after WW2). I agree again with daringthorpe, about old Hollywood being torn down around us. It’s not just Hollywood. In Great Britain, outside of London, near Windsor along the Thames River in a little village named Bray, was the home of the famed Hammer Film Productions with those horror film classics starring Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee. Bray Studios was also where Errol Flynn filmed all 26 episodes of his television series ‘The Errol Flynn Theatre’. Bray Studios was torn down, demolished for its prime riverfront real estate! Budpest was a well worthwhile trip, Bray Ralph. I found out that Hungarians whorship political figures and resitance fighters against first Austrian imperialism and Soviet Communism later, more than their share of Hollywood emigrants. Johnny Weissmüller and Peter Lorre can also be mentioned to come from this corner of the globe.

Hungarian Heinz; Thanks for finding that great phot of Errol Flynn and the ladies on the Bray Studio lot. On his television series shot at Bray, Errol worked in episodes with upcoming Hammer Film stars, Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Herbert Lom, Andrew Keir, and Michael Ripper! Thanks Ralph Schiller

Csárdás Tim, a piece of the famous Dobosch layer cake was able to wipe that bitter sweet taste out of my mouth when coming up short on Michael Curtiz. As far as Errol is concerned, I doubt he ever lifted the Iron curtain, because he never came to Vienna either. Not even to visit his pest pal Dr. Hermann Erben. PS: I passed on the local culinary speciality of a goulash made out of Rooster`s finest.
