I was just a baby! Thanks for the info. That must have been a great show. I remember the old Ed Sullivan of course and The Beatles and Wayne and Shuster too. I wonder what the skit with Errol was about?
Looks like Errol & Paulette were spoofing some of the early tv private detective shows. Art Carney was involved, too!
Ed Sullivan evidently split Errol & Paulette’s performances into two shows, one on May 11, 1952, one on May 18. The first with Georgia Gibbs as the musical guest, the second one with Dorothy Dandridge.
Errol was at least friendly with two of the three gals fom the photo above. Dorothy Lamor could be seen as a stand- in for his pretty paless Hedy Lamarr.
I’d say definitely some amour with Lamour, glamourheinz. Good rapport, but no amour with Lamar, per some of your heady reports. Likewise with Lake. Though things would have seemed to go swimmingly for him with Miss Peek-a-boo, Errol ultimately took a dive with the rather shallow Miss Lake..
P. S. In view of the astonishing height issue so prominently revealed by your photo, it’s no wonder Hollywood paired her up with Alan Ladd.
Though it may have proved a shocking combo, Flynnie would have surely generated more sparks with this blond than he ever did with Ronnie L.
Maria; Thanks for unearthing this rare photo. Ed Sullivan hired Errol Flynn and Paulette Goddard to make regular appearances on his variety show according to a book on the famed television series. The book claimed they would play a bickering husband and wife. It is obvious here Flynn and Paulette are doing their own version of ‘The Thin Man’ (Nick and Nora Charles played by William Powell and Myrna Loy in seven MGM films). The book on Sullivan says the comedy skits were not well -recieved and dropped after a few weeks. What is remarkable is that before this book no one knew of Flynn on the Sullivan variety show not even IIMDb.com…. Great find Ralph Schiller
Footsteps in the Dark might be as close as you’re going to get. Errol plays an Investment Adviser who secretly writes murder mysteries and hangs out with police to solve crimes.

Another Awesome Find, Maria! You’re Incredible!!
Errol & Pauline Goddard (I believe) at the Maxine Elliot Theater in Manhattan – Ed Sullivan’s Toast of the Town theater.
I think Paulette and Errol enjoyed each other:

A few years later the man with the fancy guitar below performed on the same “CBS Studio 51” stage.

And here’s a photo of the Sensational Dorothy Dandridge a week later, on the night of Errol & Paulette’s “Private Eye” parody, Part Deux.

X_Ray Ralph, did you know that Errol appeared on Arthur Murray Party on October 27, 1958 together with Connie Francis? Any info on that TV Format?

It’s funny but that’s a role I always wanted to see Errol play; a Private Detective.
