Tim- Ebb Tide has to be the most haunting song ever – it captures Errol perfectly IMO. This was the first video I saw when I began my EF journey. Thanks for posting.

I first saw this video today, Maria – researching something completely unrelated. I’ve always loved this song, but never gave it thought in connection to Flynn, until you (so correctly) pointed out how perfect it is for him.

The music does so wondrously evoke the haunting beauty and power of the sea. For Errol especially, the sea must have been both healing and inspiring, perhaps even humbling.

I believe the great version in this video is by Mantovani. It’s hard to top Bobby Hatfield’s vocal rendition, but, among others, Matt Munro’s is wonderful, too. … My best friend in California, now passed away, was a very talented musician, composer, producer and arranger for a number of major record companies in the 50s, 60s & 70s. He told me that, before signing any singers to major contracts, he (and others) would “test their chops” with Ebb Tide. Only the best can handle that song.

The 40’s had Boogie Woogie, the 50’s saw the birth of Rock n Roll. I remember that Errol loved classical music and I don’t think he was too impressed with Rock. However groups like Simon and Garfunkel, and many folk jazz groups may have been music to his ears. Movie soundtracks and show tunes may have been favorites also. Ebb Tide moves in on you like the waves of the sea! Good one for Errol Leslie Flynn!
