It was filmed during his peak Hollywood years.

More than a decade prior to the Modern Adventures of Casanova.

The Co-Star’s monogram includes one letter from Errol’s monogram.

There are scenes of them drinking and smoking together at nightclubs.

It was released by Warner Brothers and was very popular.

Two beautiful islands are involved. Beaches on each of them can be seen in the movie.

And one of Errol’s favorite female co-stars.

Hi Paula. Very good try, but these islands are quite a way from those. And this movie was filmed in the 40s, with a female co-star who looked much different than Olivia. The co-star in question (the one who called Errol “Casanova”) looked even more different!

The co-star who called Errol “Casanova” in this movie had previously been a recorded singer, and a good musician. Later he became a significant TV star.

In this movie, there’s a pugilistic confrontation between Flynn (a Harvard Man) and a Yalie. Harvard won quite handily.

I am just back from a wonderful trip in the US and read your quiz.

I think you are looking for Fred MacMurray who recorded a vocal with Arnheim’s orchestra “All I Want Is Just One Girl” and the movie is Dive Bomber.
The initial is F for Fred – like F for Flynn!
It is the scene in the Officer’s Club when Fred tried to woo Alexis but as soon as she saw Errol entering she walked away from Fred and dashed towards Errol. Fred annoyed and at this point he called Errol a Casanova.
Would need to watch the movie again to identify the two beaches, but I think you talk of beaches in Pearl Harbor and San Diego?

                  Amazing, Tina! You win again!!

Fred MacMurray in Dive Bomber, with the illustrious Alexis Smith. Filmed primarily on Oahu and Coronado Island, San Diego.

You are truly fluent in Flynn, Tina!!! Congratulations!

I won’t go into a shaggy dog story, but Fred was a talented saxophonist and did some singing, too. By the time of Dive Bomber, he was one of the highest paid men in America, loaned to Warner Brothers to do this technologically-pioneering and politically controversial pre-War propaganda film (pre for the U.S., that is.) Technologically-pioneering because of the aerial Technicolor, and controversial because it was viewed as a film aimed at getting Americans pumped up for war against Germany and Japan. There were actually hearings in Congress aimed at stopping Hollywood from making the increasing number of films like it, but Pearl Harbor changed everything.

After the War, MacMurray very successfully soldiered on through both films and TV, becoming a very rich man, one who could very easily feed a family of three sons. No absent-minded thespian was he.

Here he is chirping away with the lovely Irene Dunne:

And here he is flirting with Flynn’s girl …

Yes, take a look, Paula! In between smoking cartons of cigarettes with dive bombing Navy aviators, Flight Surgeon Flynn labors to save their lives. Awesome scenery and Technicolor, too!
