    Yukon Jack (the explorer, not the liqueur) was a pre-deceased cousin of the person Errol interacted with in connection to the answer to this questen.

    Hi Tim;
    Just got home from being away for a while and I see your Quiz – WOW!
    You are not giving much of a clue!
    I can identify the John Alden Logo! He was the builder of the Karenita 1929 – Errol’s Sirocco and him with a girl on board in your fourth picture.
    The fifth picture is the Volkswagen Scirocco.
    I assume he must have liked the Canadian Liquor “Yukon Jack” named after Jack McQuestion.
    The first logo image MCI Q or MIQ – no idea?
    The B and the LA logo are representing the Boston Red Socks and the LA Dodgers, BUT Errol sailed the Karenita / Sirocco after purchase from Boston to Los Angeles.
    And the last picture is the Yukon River.
    Now, what to make out of all of this that makes sense is is another cup of tea!

    I would say the SIROCCO!

        I am not really amazing just an Errol fan for over 65 years with a lot of research behind me over the many years, which always was great fun.

    TREMENDOUS, as always, Tina!!!!!

    Errol purchased the Avenir from George McQuesten. He was a prominent member of the McQuesten family, which ran the George McQuesten Lumber Co. (logo pictured above), long headquartered in Boston. A more famous relative was Jack McQuesten, Yukon Jack!

    The Avenir (which means Future in French, I believe) was designed by the legendary nautical architect, John Alden, and was built by the also preeminent Lawly & Bros., who, maybe not coincidently, McQuesten used to sell top-grade lumber to. Recently, Buick named a new concept car “Avenir”, a beautiful name I think. A photo of it is shown above.

    As you have documented previously, Errol renamed the Avenir “Sirocco”, and sailed her out of Boston. She then traveled through the Panama Canal (pictured above) to LA.

    The rest, as they say, is history!

    p.s. for the record, after Errol’s purchase and renaming, george mcquesten had a smaller version of the Avenir built, which he also called Avenir.

      Hi Tim;
      Thank you for your compliment!
      BUT something has to be kept straight here.
      IT was not the AVENIR that was an altogether different yacht, which at one time was discussed on the blog and thought that Errol owned that one too, but NO!
      Karenita built in 1929 was sold in 1930, to whom I don’t know and named AVINER or AVENAR (?), very similar name. In 1933 she became the SIMOON and in 1934 the Watchette II and renamed in 1938 Karenita again after that she became the Sirocco. Today she is the Karenita again!

      Errol did NOT purchase the George McQuesten’s Yacht Avenir. Errol purchased his yacht as Karenita in 1938.

        I’ll have to research my sources further, Tina. Here are some of them, albeit the third appears to based on the second, though I only took one year of high school German … so that I could sit behind the girl I had a crush on. She was fluent and excelled, while I got my only ‘C’ in high school (and that was exceedingly generous of Ms. Holman!)

        This is excellent detail, Tina. For the sake of Flynnian history, we’re going to have to further investigate/try to resolve why the contemporaneous (Motor Boating, April 1938) account of this well publicized transaction with Errol referred to his McQuesten’s “74-foot ketch” as Avenir, to be replaced by McQuesten with a “much smaller boat” (“l.o.a. 44 feet 6 inches”) “of the same name” (i.e. ” the new Avenir”).

        Errol may have left us yet another mystery/contradiction to ponder.
