Which Night Club is this?

03 Apr

Zebra striped upholstery?
I have seen this Zebra striped upholstery in many other celebrity pictures, does anybody know what is the name of this place?  It must have been one of the celebrity “Hang-Outs”!

Porfirio Rubirosa and wife Doris Duke

Errol looks quite sad, I wonder what he is thinking? What is on the table “G  DEPT: “? Who is the EFBlog author who knows everything?

And while we are at questions, who knows where the Lido Club on Swallow Street is or was?  Hollywood? New York?  The picture below was taken on May 5th, 1959 at the Lido Club

Tina! Sometimes when you upload a photo within the Post Article window, you get a small box with a red X in it. You need to drag the corner of the image out to change the picture into the size you want it to appear when published. Then hit Preview to see how it looks. Then hit Edit to go back to the Post Article window, and many times the picture is then visible. You can decide if you need to resize it again, or publish as is…

This is the El Morocco Club in New York where Errol took Nora in 1948 – He also took Beverly Aadland there and perhaps he is thinking of years past… in any case, with the sorts of illnesses and problems he had piling up, its no wonder he looks melancholy…

Thank you David! I googled the El Morocco and a Zebra is the Logo, that makes things a lot clearer. But what about The Lido on Swallow Street? Anybody???

John! If you sat me down and quizzed me about Flynn I probably wouldn't know a thing of the top of my head! I can, however, see through decks of cards with my x-ray specs and thus am banned from Vegas permanently… more is the pity! Or as Errol would phrase it Ppppiiiiiiiiiittttteeeee… until he ran out breath… oops, there is something I know about Flynn!

Just asking about those 1959 nightclub photos of Errol Flynn, is that glamorous-looking blonde with him Beverly Aadland?

El Morocco nightclub, one of the prime locations to spot celebrities and members of high society in New York City in the 1930s. The club was on East 54th Street in Manhattan (and still is!) and run by John Perona and his son Edwin. Patrons of the establishment included an array of actors, socialites and luminaries. This picture was taken by Jerome Zerbe, official photographer of the El Morocco from 1934 to 1939, who by his own account helped draw celebrities to the club by regularly sending photographs taken there to the newspaper society pages.

Jerome Zerbe’s complete archive (photographic & ephemera) is held by Yale and available here.

Warning, there are thousands of very dull and unannotated pictures to wade through.Interesting and rare stuff though.

The original book will cost you a bloody fortune.
