Ghost List for the After Party: A to Z

Hedy, Bev and Niv’ all are said to have said that Errol’s powerful spirit remained here after his death, or at least occasionally returned. The Hamblems and Nelsons believed so, too – along with other presences at Errol’s favorite old haunt, Mulholland Farm. Paranormal activities have abounded on the Zaca, too, it’s been said.

So, whether you believe in ghosts, or not, let’s explore the legends. Don’t be afraid of no ghosts.…. That’s the spirit.

If they exist at all, were they somehow connected to Errol, or perhaps to James Lankershim, the land’s former owner, or someone else entirely???

What are your thoughts?

      Dear doppelgangerheinz:

Does this mean Hollywood can do yet another sequel/prequel of The Exorcist, starring Errol’s ghost?! Holy Ghost, it’s enough to make one’s head spin! That’s all we need. …. Who plays Errol?!

I didn’t know that the presence on Zaca was so strong that an exorcism had to be performed. However was it Errol or some leftover spirit that was there just for the revelry? Same for the house where parties where the norm and many brought spirits with them. So it is very interesting when someone is in a haunted house or hotel where much has happened over the many years of life and death. I’ve been in old places and houses where I encountered apparitions and things moved around from their set place. Lights turned on in the night still on at morning. Oh well hows knows what they really are…….

Sounds to me more like a public relations sexorcism than an exorcism, timerider! Evidently, the girls are still chasing Errol in the afterlife, and visa versa. Just another paranormal day for Flynn.

P.S. The troublesome spirit crashing glass in the upstairs bedroom could be the always high spirited Lili Damnita, one of the many Been with Flynn girls who always wanted him back.

There’s a plethora of phanstastic ghost stories and spookulation. In some instances, they seemed to have correlated with and been amplified by the amount of hallucinogenic drugs being taken in the house, certainly during the Nelson occupancy, if not the Hamblin habitation.

For those who want to look the lay of the land (no jokes please) and check out things closer, here’s a current and Errol-Era overhead of the Mulholland Farm landscape. … Don’t forget to consider the burial site of James Boon Lankershim, who may have had more than one lady madly after him.

Someplace on the Internet while researching Lankershim I recall stumbling upon a comment left on a site from a man claiming that the paranormal activity at Errol’s farm was more likely from Lankershim than our beloved Flynn. Irritatingly of course, he declined to elaborate. The best source for details on the Mulholland Farm hauntings is of course, the book by Matzen Errol Flynn Slept Here…. Robert devotes an entire, gripping and impossible to stop reading chapter to the subject. A must read!

        Ahoy to The Zaca.

I believe you may be referring to the comment of Mr. Brian Patrick in the link below:

I’ll add this account of Lankershim’s golden years with Adele Blood’s match for him, Irene Herbert, a relationship doomed for some very extensive and notorious litigation:

For those who want more of the details, here is the exceptionally long and detailed ruling of the California Supreme Court:

I think those things can happen- One day after I discussed insurance with someone who lived on Errol Drive, I went for a walk and almost got run over by a truck marked :Hobart Trucking” on its side. Upon arriving home I caught a rerun of a popular TV series who discussed watching Captain Blood after dinner…. Coincidence? Not exactly paranormal just Errol saying hi I guess!

Yes, it was very cool indeed, Texas Gal. I was very fortunate to have taken all of these photos. As depicted below, Errol, Niv and I were flying over the Hollywood Hills one Sunday afternoon following a polo match up at Will Roger’s place, when we decided to buzz over Mulholland Farm. As was often the case in those days, I had with me some aerial surveillance cameras Howard Hughes had loaned Paul Mantz and myself during our filming of Hells Angels.

Years later (at the invite of Ozzie & Harriet’s boy, Ricky) I went to a garden party up at Mulholland. I took more photos at that get-together, some while hang-gliding with the Nelson Twins.

Thank you for the apology, Texas Gal, but, fret not, I have endured through thick and thin, and will continue to do so.

I was up at and over Mulholland on so very many different dates in those years that I’m having to go through all my photo files to answer your question. This could take quite some time, but my search has been rewarding so far, in that I have found several other photos I didn’t recall ever taking, or ever saying I took. I found one, too, of John Wilkes Booth jumping from Abe Lincoln’s booth at Ford Theater, but, as that predates Errol, I won’t post that here. Here are some of my favorites during my years at Mulholland:

I don’t have the book, nor have I read it or know about any photo credits related to this post, but I certainly encourage everyone to buy it and read it.

Yes, my friend Jack Marino was able to provide them. We don’t ask our Authors to provide photo credits as a rule. Often, it’s impossible to determine who really took the photos or has any credit due, and Authors can’t spend their time running these details down. Many aren’t even aware that the courtesy of a photo credit is something they can do, so we just don’t do it unless someone would like to have the information.

Hi. The photo of the house is in the Slept here book page 122 and,was taken by the Hamblen family when the house went on the market.
