I just found out that Lincoln Douglas Hurst, born on May 6, 1946 died on November 11, 2008; now knowing this, I am wondering about his so called forthcoming book advertised by the Internet book sellers i.e. Amazon etc. ““Errol Flynn: The True Adventures
of a Real-Life Rogue” – who is the rogue here?
If he died in 2008 how can this book be published in 2010, in particular since I am waiting for my order to be filled since January 2010 with Amazon and have not received any notice that the book will not be forth coming. On the contrary, I receive notices to the fact “If I wish to remain on the waiting list” and that to this day.
Anybody having any information to this mystery?

Oh my god! Great sleuthing Tina. So, where does that leave us, I mean is this a scam or something? Do you think that we will ever get this book, because when I ordered it back in February I assumed that they had the book! They also sent me an email saying that they should be shipping it to me by mid July and I received that email back in May. Well, as long as they haven't taken our money is if safe to assume that we are ok or what? Thanks for your help regarding this matter, Tammy.

Thank you, but I found IPDM is a great source to find things, mind you not always accurate, but nevertheless it is a good information vehicle.
In my humble opinion I think that the book was not completed, maybe he died suddenly, and maybe somebody in the family tries to complete it, but have difficulty with it, therefore the delay. Just a guess!
Quite possible that one day we will be informed that the book is out and we get it or the book is canceled. We will see!

Lincoln Hurst was a professional writer and learned scholar on many topics. Hurst had incredible knowledge on Errol Flynn's life and career that no one else had uncovered.
Unfortunately for all of us, he died suddenly with his book uncompleted. The publisher was missing several key chapters in the book and despite a valiant effort by his surviving family and friends it appears they are irretrievably gone.
It is very doubtul if not impossible for the book to ever be released.

I somehow concluded that he must have died suddenly, which is much more distressing than the book not being completed. With his sudden death the world has lost a very well thought of member of our literary society.

There is no scam involved here. The fact is Lincoln was working on the book when he suffered a massive heart attack in his driveway after running an errand and actually drove himself the short distance to the hospital where he was treated, and strangely, released much too soon. I will never understand why they released him unless it was his own wish. He may have wanted to continue trying to find some missing material for the book before his health failed him completely. He had suddenly lost much of his research when the computer he used at his university fried and had been trying to recover what he could from friends and his own filing cabinets. He was partially successful. But he had less time than he needed and suffered another fatal heart attack almost immediately after arriving home…
I have today emailed his editor at Scarecrow to ask about the future of the book and will share whatever news I may receive with everyone. It look more grim with each passing day…

What a shame. I had no idea that Lincoln had died. He bought a lot of Flynn stuff from me a few years back – original photos, letters, etc – at a time I really needed the cash. He was a real gentleman. Such a shame

I too am sorry to hear this…I like others have had the book on backorder through Amazon for ages. I also got the E mail from Amazon bumping the delivery date up even further. Well, now I know it'll never come….such a shame. I hope the family can cobble together what he had there and keep it for posterity or perhaps share it with another writer someday. :~(

the book is suppose to be coming out with more copies next June and I have ordered a copy of it. Hopefully and maybe it will come. If it does because of Lincoln Douglas Hurst's passing back 2008.

As I wrote recently on the Amazon page for this book:
“Sorry to disappoint, but this book is never going to see the light of day. Reputable inside sources have confirmed that the materials Hurst compiled for the manuscript are scattered and irretrievably lost within the disorganized maze of computers that he left either damaged or incapable of being entered.”
And so it is. However, the “Errol Flynn Illustrated Life Chronology” will include all the info that would have been in Mr. Hurst's book, including the Spanish diary–and more. Stay tuned……

By the way, Linc Hurst was known as “Arno Flynn” on this blog and is still listed as one of our members…. and always will be! Nobody was able bring his book out under his name (an impossible task without the missing materials) and to think his years of dedicated research will not be entirely lost is a comforting feeling. I am completely dumbfounded that the book shows up in books lists for sale and I even read a review of it online and wondered how the hell that was done!

I was doing some mathematics… when I consider the last time you posted sth about the book it was September… you were completing 1938 then, I think… Means you manage 1 year in 2 months… now we can calculate how much you need for the remaining 19 years… oh oh, this needs a LOT of patience on my side. :-))

That is the best explanation – yeah – that dirty good old Cabot!
Btw – I looked on Amazon and it is still there for $380.61 it is the 61 cents which intrigue me most! I called Amazon and told them about it so lets see how much longer it will be listed. It is there for many months. The seller sells many Errol books all between $150 and up. Very interesting!

I have informed Barnes & Noble and Amazon and asked them to investigate the source of these advertisings, so we will see what they come up with besides the ghost of Bruce Cabot. Fun and games somebody is playing.
Btw, I wonder if Errol met Bruce “UPSTAIRS” and settled the score, maybe he got a black eye or two. But then they are not in the same department at all as Errol is on a white cloud – right – you remember. If Bruce would have been on the white cloud Errol sure would have knocked him off it, but he never had one on the first place. They always were worlds apart on anything.
