      Oui, they certainly were, Maria! … Especially if you travelled first class. But, I guess this proves that even (or especially) first class people – even Le Flynn Magnifique – come with luggage.

        This photo of Errol and Lili in Paris is published on multiple sites on the net. None of the sites I have seen identify or even hint at any copyright protection of any kind. Here’s one: satumetsa.tumblr.com…. Here’s another:41.media.tumblr.com…

        Nor is the photo marked in any manner indicating any copyright.

        I have no idea if this photo is copyrighted, nor if any copyright on this photo of Errol is valid and enforceable, or not able t o be published on this blog, especially not in the manner you suggest.

        Also, what are you suggesting when you imply “[we] could lose someone”? Who?

        Mr. Fergerl (apparently) posted something about his photographs used in various places around the internet and hoped that serious researchers would not denegrate his documentation and respect the friendship between Herman F. Erben and Errol Flynn. Inga Klein, my friend, and former blog member posted what Mr. Fegerl said but he in no way warned anybody associated with the blog not to use his photographs. We are a public discussion group, and use images provided by many Authors who find them on the internet. Some are credited to their sources, and most are not because they either don’t exist or posters are unaware of the courtesy. We use them to further discussion, not for commercial purposes. We are not limited to scholarly research, but rather are an open forum and don’t adhere to formal educational processes. We just are a group of people talking about Errol Flynn. We have the support and sanction of the Errol Flynn Estate now controlled by Rory Flynn who owns all rights to the Errol Flynn brand, and Errol Flynn image. All other rights to images are the intellectual property of their respective copyright holders.

          For those who want to explore Hermann Erben’s background with more objectivity and greater detail, the “Erben Myths” link below contains conflicting assessments and opinions from multiple parties, as well as links to original source evidence regarding Erben’s record of alleged crimes, both before the war and during the war. There is no evidence Errol knew of any espionage for the Nazis by Erben. There is however extensive evidence that Erben used Errol’s name to escape imprisonment for alleged war crimes for the Nazis. I’ve repeatedly asked Mr. Fergerl to rebut those allegations, but he has not. I hope he can, but he has not and it very strongly appears he cannot.

          In my opinion, Erben very egregiously abused Errol’s friendship and loyalty.

    Ahhh..the days of wood and leather filled with fine apparel! Hopefully the trunks were sealed well for the voyage..LOL.. Still even today trunks are made for the discriminating traveler.

    I have got to wonder how they scored not only the Flynn’s baggage but their clothes as well. Does anyone have more information on that?

      Excellent question, T. Z. I don’t know but suspect the clothes may have possibly been acquired separately from the steamer trunk. Maybe Lili’s wardrobe was collected piece by piece by collectors, maybe in the manner Kate Moss obtained that Flapper chemise she famously wore to the Ed Wood premier with her ex-beau, Johnny Depp. Personally, I thought the long orange-like gown might be too long to be Lili’s, but it’s hard to know without knowing it’s actual length.

      Regarding the trunk, could be it ties back to this collector, or someone similar?

      Sophie the Dutch Maid is a sensational find, hollandheinz. Danke.

      Deep Dutch research reveals two passport photos that may be a likeness of Sophie. Errol may have preferred the blonde, “Lila” the brunette. It was a hard decision for Errol, I’m sure. Or, perhaps the Fleens were Sophie’s choice.

      I note that Sophie is listed as about seven years older than Lila, which, of course, means she was actually younger.
