Despite Errol’s best efforts and magnificent batting stance, this is just not cricket.
* Joltin’ Joe’s wife once wowed the crowd at this very same venue, long gone Gilmore Field,along with one of EF’s best friends, the great Mickey Rooney.
** It’s a close call, but Chuck Connors may have been in the pre-game show and playing for the Angels at this event with Errol, before he himself became a Hollywood star of the cinematic type, though not nearly as incandescent as either Errol or Marilyn.

I fear Errol was a player, but no baller, Gentleman Timber. Even though he surrounded himself with very capable baseball players like Big Boy Guinn.

Well, shagheinz – shag being a baseball expression, of course – I think there may have been quite a number of very attractive women who might have disagreed with the second part of your first sentence. But, yes, Big Boy must have played some good ball. Probably not as good as Howard Hill, we’ll never know for sure. But Williams was definitely on some top Tinsel Town teams, including Slide, Kelly, Slide depicted in your photo above (with Bob & Irish Meusel, Mike Donlin, and Lew Fonseca – as well as my grandfather’s cousin, Paul Kelly!) Even more profoundly though, I believe he was also in Babe Comes Home, with you know who. He was a rough in the diamond flicks.
