Super Flynn Fan Stan Lee

Dear fellow Flynn fans,

it is well documented, because Marvel-ous Stan Lee never made no fuss about it, that Errol Flynn was his childhood hero. The pic above shows that our Hollywood hero also was his inspiration for another of his comic book heroes. Add Asiatic facial features, Klingon ears as well as wings on heels to it and voilà “Namor” appears. That name has the same number of letters as Errol plus contains or should we say implicates some portion of “Amor”. A little bit of Amor is in every man, but since…

By the way, a further reference to Flynn, but no relation to its main character can be found in this year`s Marvel movie “Ant Man”.

Enjoy,

Marvelous, indeed, heroheinz. Stan’s the Man.

Here’s a clip from the Adventures of Errol Lee:

And, though Stan very rarely goes negative, he did sign this one from Sea Hawk:

Interesting clip! Minor point though. Sub-mariner was created by artist Bill Everett and not Stan Lee and Namor is actually Roman spelt backwards!–A. R.

Hi A.R, how ar` U? Great to hear back from you with a major not a minor adjustment to my entry. I looked things up and here is what I learned. Everett created Subs for a publication called MOTION PICTURE FUNNIES WEEKLY, which appeared in April of 1939. His story then was also used for MARVEL COMICS # 1 in October/ November of the same year. If Errol had his pictures taken within this period of time, this would add flesh to my blog bone. More on the exact circumstances of the birth of a sea borne superhero are in here: www.amazon.de/Fire-Water-Everett-Sub-Mariner-Marvel/dp/1606991663… and here: web.archive.org… PS: Namor is also a palindrome for “Ramon”.

Dear Texan Rose, a reference to our hero is made late in the film at the safecracking scene, if I remember correctly. I will get back to you on this, since I have a hunch that Santa may bring Ant-a…
