    Though he had quite a lot in common with these tiger killing visitors, Howard Hill would have been off the mark in this particular photo.

    Hi tricky Tim;
    I would say that this is a TEAM visiting the set, question is what team? As sailing is in my blood, I’ll take a wild guess and say this team is visiting especially Errol and would therefore be a sailing team.
    Did by any chance Harold Vanderbilt’s “Ranger” crew visit the set? “Ranger” was the winners of the 1937 America Cup, which was also the last race of the America Cup until 1956 due to WWII.

      Ahoy, Tina! So good to hear from you!!

      Harold Vanderbilt is a sterling answer. Very clever and timely indeed, but not quite on the correct course for this quiz.

      Today’s quiz relates very much to today specifically. The answer includes someplace in the United States. Thinling inside the grid and proceeding alphabetically is a very good way to get there.

        P.S. As good and successful as they were at what they did, Howard Hill may well have been just as good, maybe even good enough to give them a few tips … and I don’t mean arrow tips (though some of Howard’s pre-Hollywood fans may have liked if he had.)

        Tim, thank you, but this makes no sense to me?
        Thinling inside the grid and proceeding alphabetically is a very good way to get there. Thinling? inside the grid? what grid? Wow!

          You know I have to make these quizzes so that you can’t answer in the first five seconds, Tina!

          Howard would have been quite neighbourly with these fellows, though not a fan or supporter most of the year. Nevertheless, they really rose to the occasion back in ’38.

          Proceeding alphabetically will get you there most expeditiously.

    Errol was probably hoping for this group to visit, too, and vice versa! They were nearby.

        Yes, Tina. While in town for the Rose Bowl in 1938, members of the University of Alabama football team visited Errol at Warner Brothers Studios. This is timely because Alabama plays for the National Championship tonight.

        The Howard Hill connection is that, among other very notable athletic accomplishments, Howard Hill was a football star for the Auburn Tigers, the intrastate arch rival of the University of Alabama.

          That is very interesting indeed! Do I understand right that the two arch rivals play tonight? Alabama plays tonight against the Auburn Tigers for the Championship? As these two teams have not met on the field since 1938. Is that the great story behind your quiz?
          If so, that is outstanding!

            No, not quite that great of a story, Tina! Alabama played California in ’38 and Clemson tonight. The Auburn connection is strictly because of Howard Hill.
