Mail Bag! Rory Flynn and Crossed Swords!

28 Jan

Here is a note sent to me from Rory who asks that we on the blog may be able to offer this writer some help with his book project:

Hello Rory,
I am writing a book about the movie “Crossed Swords” ( 1953) by Milton Krims shot in Cinecittà in Rome and Castle Lancellotti of Lauro (my hometown) with Errol Flynn and Gina Lollobrigida. I would like to know if you have information , documents and photos d’archive useful for reconstructing history .
Waiting for an answer, i send heartfelt greetings.

Vincenzo Castaldo (journalist)

If you have any info, sources, or other helpful information for this author please let me know via the blog’s email address, or publish it here in a reply and I will forward it to Vincenzo!

You may rate a mention in the book’s credits for your contribution …

    I have never seen the film and am very suspicious of the Blu Ray that is available. TFOEF rates it poorly except for the Cardiff photography. My fear is that it is a very guilty pleasure for the very few. How many of us have seen it?

    I have the movie twinarchers. It is not the best movie Errol ever made but it is a very good entertaining movie. It is very funny and Errol is great – his usual self. Of course if you are a collector of his movies it belongs into the collection.
    In my opinion it is in the class of Four’s a Crowd, The Perfect Specimen, Footsteps in the Dark or The Avenger.
    Maybe that will help you to decide if you wish to purchase it. The quality is not bad at all.
    If any of our other members have seen it they maybe have some comments for you too.

      I love Errol’s narration, and the music. A Spaghetti Swashbuckler for sure, not in the league of Errol’s best, but still good fun action and great Flynn humor.

      Is that Errol doing the chair maneuver in the final duel below??

        Oh, yes, and great posters, too. Plus a starring role for Carmine Depasto!

    Hi David;
    I have no background story but I have about 25 pictures of Crossed Swords, should I send them to you?

        Hi David;
        I don’t understand – I don’t need a gallery for them – I thought you would send them to Vincenzo Castaldo ?

    Hi all,

    Here is a great you tube clip in Italian on the making of the film.

    Its very hard to find as you will need to search under the European/Italian title of the film. If also has a fair amount of clips from the movie and the quality of these clips is excellent
