This Bob Hope comedy is priceless! The ending is a comic hoot. Hope’s character impersonates the Great Casanova and when his barge sails into Venice he sings a romantic ditty. Every window balcony has a swooning young beauty. One knockout dives off her balcony into the canal and swims up to Hope’s barge. Hope tells her “You’ll have to swim around the boat for a while. It wouldn’t be fair to the other girls!” The cast includes Olivia de Havilland’s Oscar-winning sister Joan Fontaine, Lon Chaney Jr., Raymond Burr, Vincent Price, Basil Rathbone, and Henry Brandon. Perhaps the last really funny Bob Hope movie. Ralph Schiller

Hey Tim; Bob Hope also starred in two more terrific swashbuckling spoofs. For the Samuel Goldwyn studios Hope made ‘The Princess And The Pirate’ (1944) in Technicolor with Virginia Mayo, Victor McLaglen and Walter Slezak as the villains, and a funny Walter Brennan in the Alan Hale sidekick role. The other equally good was a remake of Rudolf Valentino’s 1924 swashbuckler of the same title ‘Monsieur Beaucaire’ (1947) with lovely Joan Caulfield and Flynn’s old British pal Patrick Knowles!
