Errol Flynn & Orlando Bloom

13 Feb

Not sure if any of you lot have seen some of the behind the scenes shots of Orlando Bloom in the upcoming movie 'The Three Musketeers'  …..is it just me or is he looking very Errol Flynnish? (picture attatched)

So he's done the archery like Flynn in LOTR, He's been a Pirate like Flynn, now he's looking like Lord Essex …like Flynn.      Also found out the Orlando Bloom is now a father and his son is called Flynn!

I was surprised at the baby's name, too, and the parallels are interesting. However, I don't think there is much resemblance – nobody can look like Errol as Essex!!!!! Just compare the two pictures: with Orlando, you see that this guy does not really fit into the period nor into the costumes. I even find he looks a bit ridiculous, like dressed up for a cheap costume party. Whereas Errol just looks natural in any piece of historic clothing!!!

    Hi Sam;
It's a long time since we communicated – Hi – How are you?
In regards to the picture, nothing against Orlando and great find by your efforts, but an Errol Flynn he could never be not even if Hell freezes over. Nobody can – Errol was unique – one of a kind!
He named his son FLYNN? He has to be a great Flynn fan – we like that! I wonder why not Errol Flynn Bloom? Errol loved Flowers in Bloom – the Frangipani flower in particular!
I sincerely hope we see more of you again on the Blog – we miss you!
    Best regards,
    Tina

I'm not liking the picture of Orlando at all. He looks more like Claude Rains to me. Interesting news about his baby's name. Thanks for posting Sam!

okedokes, it seems most things I post on this blog most people disagree with. So I'm just going to say that I think people on this blog could be slightly more open minded to others thoughts and to new actors, we all know there wont be another Flynn. But I thought you'd be interested in seeing how its good that there are young actors like Orlando Bloom who is willing to keep the Errol Flynn style going which many other young actors aren’t always confident enough to do. I think we should support young actors and actresses who are so obviously inspired and admire actors such as Errol Flynn instead of immediately condemning them to failure before you've even watched the film… This may all seem slightly over the top and that I‘m over-reacting, but it’s a point I need to get off my chest and I think a lot of people should take on.
Orlando Bloom is just one of a few young stars that are willing to do period drama‘s. If actors stopped being inspired by Flynn I think that’d be sad and a shame, seeing a picture like this of Bloom in Musketeers makes me happy to think Flynn probably inspired that, and I think Errol Flynn would be dead proud of it too.

You make good points. Orlando will make a good musketeer; he was great in Pirates and I am glad an actor will take on sword play again and I do hope Orlando, as well as other actors, looks to EF for inspiration. Each time we watch a new movie of this type it does create talk about all the other actors who came before who gave us such enjoyment. But, really, what is that hair style? That just doesn't look romantic at all!!

Sorry Sam, but I admit to not being one of the not open-minded in that respect. I originally wanted to write a comment saying that Orlando certainly never publicly declared his admiration for Flynn, but then I did some research…
    www.contactmusic.com…
Okay, I thought… What do other people think?
    www.celebrityspider.com…
And finally: why did they really choose the name “Flynn”? :
    www.name…
So… RELUCTANTLY, I must admit that I was wrong in a couple of respects. But still, Sam, forgive my stubbornness… for me, this is just an imitation and I ask myself: why do they have to make so many re-makes of films which are actually good? Of course, these films remind us of the classics and their actors, but… but but but, as Errol said in “Never Say Goodbye”. But this discussion would lead into the wrong direction and would be endless.
SO: Yes, I was wrong, but also YES I AM STUBBORN AND NARROW-MINDED!!!!!

That's fine, Sam, just to remind you I was one who seconded you on Flynn Rider being good as inspiration for future generations. :-) I had a similar experience like you today, but from the opposite side ;-)

    Wow Sam!
No such thing Sam, we love your contributions and you immediately get a lot of response, which is great and keeps us on the move!
You said it and you said it extremely well! And You Are So Right!
One just is so over protective of Errol that sometimes one does not realizes fast enough to have a look at the other side of the picture. I am guilty too when it comes to Errol of being very protective of him and hold an umbrella over him at all times.
You are right – it is great that new actors model themselves to some extend after Errol, which is wonderful as it really shows how great he actually was and Errol would love it too! On top of it it keeps Errol alive!
One famous person once said “One is only dead when nobody remembers you!” How true!
My hat off to you Sam!

Thank you, Tina, but it was not so difficult and I think you are way ahead on the way to the throne of the Research Queen!
