Hi David;
This is the greatest! What a great find! Who made this home movie?
I think there is three or four different sets of movie making put together.
One could be “The African Queen” showing Humphrey Bogart and the boat at the beginning of the movie.
Last is Sophia Loren – maybe in the making of the movie “Two Women”. Besides Errol there are familiar faces like the man wiping is face and the man in the toque but I am not able to name them. I wonder who they are?
Wow — what a great find indeed! Thanks for posting this film footage here for us to see! Yeah, I too would love to know more about it (when it was filmed, where, for what reasons, etc.) Too bad the clip of Errol is so brief. :-)
We'll leave it here unexplained for awhile to give others a chance to have a go at who the people are! But yes, you do see Bogart and a playful Sophia Loren… I wish the clip was a lot longer, too!
Very interesting find indeed. Could it be that all these African films were made together somehow, on locations in Africa? The sequence with Errol is from “Roots of Heaven”, maybe the others were filmned nearby? But then Bogart died in early 1957 and the filming of “Roots” was probably later? Very mysterious.

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!!
David, I love such tasks, and thanks for leaving a little bit of it until I was up again here in Europe :-)
I thought that the man in the toque (thanks for the word, Tina, and also for all the wonderful pre-work! You almost got it all so there's not much left ;-)) could be Jack Cardiff, and when I browsed around a bit I came to think that maybe one of the other guys is John Huston, as he was the director of both, “Roots” and “African Queen”… So this is probably a compilation of footage from both “behind the scenes”?
Hi Inga;
I still maintain you are a super sleuth to find proof – wow!
Yeah – Jack Cardiff – he looked familiar – and now I know why – because he was young then. We good old fogies! Maybe – if I waited with my reply I would have guessed it, but due to my time constrained – a minute here and there, I sent my reply just from the first glance. I still wonder about the rest of them, like the man with Errol – etc.
Keep up the good work!
Take care
Hi Inga;
I think Sophia Loren is shown in “Legend of the Lost” – 1957 and not as I thought before in “Two Women”. “Legend of the Lost” plays in the Sahara Desert and John Wayne is in the movie!
The African Queen was filmed in 1951 – I recognized the boat immediately.
Roots of Heaven was filmed in 1958 and released in October 15, 1958.
John Houston should be in this little home made movie but I can't recognize him, maybe John Wayne too. I have to have a closer look again!
Hi David,
Not quite sure who all the people are but seem to recall the footage; Isn't it from 'Cameraman: The Life and Work of Jack Cardiff'?
best wishes,
Brian.
I came across this video on youTube, and since it hasn’t had many viewers I thought bloggers here may not have seen it. It was from 1951 and has EF in suit, but he’s using a cane. Also in the video is Jack Benny, others.
