Dear fellow Flynn fans,
what do you make of the submarinan legend, that Errol can be spotted in the 1951 film “Pardon my French” starring two Flynn(ti)mates Paul Henreid and Merle Oberon?
He supposedly philmbombed a scene at the Harbour while on his way to his ZACA sporting the full beard from “Kim”.
After solving our Hollywood hero`s whereabouts as “Lord of Shanghai” in more ways than one: www.theerrolflynnblog.com…, the new task can only be to view the film and pinpoint the swaying swashbuckler.
The movie as such may have given him the idea of filming “The adventures of Captain Fabian” aka “The Bargain” aka “Bloodline” in the South of France.
PMF was shot in two versions. The second one being a French one, as was categorically required for foreign film companies by the French film authorities, which in turn provided homegrown actors and financial support.
Cap Fab deliberately fell short of these accordance and this contributed to many woes for Errol later on.
He had nothing to gain from this bargain and then he fell for William Tell…
Enjoy,

How would one say “Fascinating!” in French, m.heinz?
If Madamoiselle Lili allowed, Sean could have seen his Dad down in FLA. But she likely had some French things to say about that.

From my memory and looking at the photos we have to say Errol is not in Shanghai. The guy with the cigarette is not Flynn. I have not seen the other film so who knows. It does not look like I will unless some one here can tell me it is great.

Twains, if we wander down Memory Lane, two statements were offered often about Errol’s whereabouts in LFS: A man coming out of a bar and…a crew member on board of the yacht. Personally I opt for the long shot of a welldressed Errol looking on casually, playing it safe for once.

If I ever get the film I will have to do a frame search for each scene that has more people in it than you can see all at once. I have been wrong before, and will be wrong again no doubt.

I don’t know, but that sure looks like him on the poster, along with a small head drawing of Joseph Cotton perhaps. And that posing woman looks familiar, too (a humorous depiction of Kate Smith, possibly?). I think Orson was definitely up to something with the poster.

And, per shangheinzster’s previous discovery and post, this sure is a very strong candidate for Errol.

Heinz; ‘Pardon My French’ has played on Turner Classic Movies in 2015. At least the English-language version was. I only remember it as being a good movie with the always beautiful Merle Oberon. Ralph Schiller

Pardon my interrupting your roaming, romeheinz, but I thought you might like to see this Nice photo of Kim-era Flynn on the French Riviera during the timeframe in question. This may be further circumstantial evidence that Errol could have “philmbombed” Pardon My French”.

January 21, 195O, Nice, France:
“Bearded Flynn, returned from India where he played the lead role in a movie. Above, still wearing the beard he needed for the role, he leaves his car to board his private yacht. Before leaving for India, he announced his engagement to Romanian Princess Irene Gykha.”

One can hardly describe Errol’s attire as “Flynncognito”. He should be easy to spot in PMF. Who’s on first- Gentlescan Tim, Radar Ralph Schiller or Trivia Tina!?

Hmmm seems like our Mr. Fin, errr, Flynn, may have been spearheaded by one of his misfiring mates – his right hand as I see it is bandage wrap, yes?

Who do we have here? Who is on this picture with Errol with fins and all? It’s on the Zaca I recognize the riggings but what are the details? Looks like some diving going on and Errol is examining the fin. I wonder when and diving for what?
