I love the links, Jan…..still think they'd look stunning on a gold chain around my neck, LOL!
I have been gone from the blog for sometime, just too busy with ranch work, and lately, sick with some kind of lingering flu virus/cough/headaches…blah blah etc. Woke up feeling as bad today, then saw Don Juan was on TCM. Watched it between doing chores….it's amazing what viewing a Flynn pic does for my motivation and doldrums. Perked me up right away. Anyhow, have been catching up on all the new wonderful pics and posts here, and as ever, adoring my favorite actor and hero. Cheers to all and thanks for such great info, pics and posts!

I know exactly what you mean, David. Well, it is like this, living in Spain, obviously my name becomes “Juan”, and from a courtesy point of view that (and rightly so) becomes “Don Juan”.

Don Juan played yesterday on TCM at 12:00 noon.
It is a wonderful movie but has ever anybody noticed something very “funny” in a scene? I will post this question on the Quiz Page – David so kindly made a tab for. Let's have some fun and as it was your idea we maybe should continue with it for the members who like it.

Adventures of Don Juan is fast becoming one of my top three Flynn films. For years I turned to Captain Blood or Robin Hood as my ultimate Flynn fix but these days it's Adventures of Don Juan and The Dark Avenger – absolutely loving The Dark Avenger at the moment, must have seen it at least a dozen times in the last few weeks.
Before that I had a spell of loving Lilacs in the Spring and Istanbul – a lot of the films Errol made outside of the so-called golden years (35-42) really have stood the test of time extremely well. Flynn's performances in his later films, whilst not always of the highest standards, are always completely fascinating.

Totally agree, Brian. I have seen Don Juan so often that lines of it pop up in my head unexpectedly and I have to think for a while where they belong. It's such a great movie and I love Errol with that longer hair…

Don Juan was always a very dear film of mine! I can watch it over and over again and have a great time with it. Have you ever watched out for his facial expressions in individual scenes they are just divine. He was a great actor no doubt about that!

Listen to this! Remember the dungeon scene where Don Errol was thrown brutally into his cell? My God, he was drunk alright shaking his head violently on seeing his friend going past badly beaten up.
Well, prior to all the preparations of setting up the scene, Jack Warner paid a visit to the set. He said something like: It is missing something, some character. Errol joined in: “Yes, it go do with a rat to add to the miserable surroundings. Alan Hale (great man) cheekily said: Well, there is always Jack! That is humour. Love it, right up my street, that is!
By the way, towards the end of the film, almost final scene, Errol waits quietly for her Majesty Queen Margaret to enter his room, I really do not know as how that scene got past by the Sensor Board as strict as they were then. Those jerkins are so short! In any case, one of my favourite EF films, also The Sea Hawk of course and Uncertain Glory.
Your Quiz question was very good but also quite ovbious to the people who know the answer naturally.
I bet you don't know the answer to this one: What was Errol's lucky number? (not a quiz question, as it is up to the lucky winner of this week!!

Hi Tina,
The first 20-25 minutes of Don Juan is as good, if not better, than any other Flynn film and I don't think Errol ever handled a sword as well as he did in Don Juan. My one small complaint about the film is that it just seems to confine itself a little – I would have loved to have seen a little more outdoor action. But I do think this is the one film where you fully realise that Flynn was the swashbuckler 'par excellence. It may be cliche to say that he made it all look so easy but he really does and there can be nothing but respect and admiration for the naturalness of the performance. A truly great and much underrated film in my opinion.

I am sorry to have posted a very obvious quiz question, but maybe it was not so obvious as you can see in the answers. Why didn't you answer it on the Quiz Page which David so kindly prepared for us.
I am sure the Quiz Page may provide some fun for some of our members don't you think so? After all you were the one who had the idea on the first place!
Please post your “Lucky Number” quiz question in the Quiz Page, but it requires a little more embellishment as lucky numbers come from a variety of aspects. Do you mean his lucky number of his zodiac sign, his lucky birth number, his own choice of a number he thought was lucky for him etc.etc.etc. Please post it and state which kind of lucky number you have in mind without giving away the answer of course.

Well, maybe it is not the answer you were hoping for because I am still not quite sure if it is up to me to ask the next Quiz queston, I would suggest to rotate between the bloggers. By all means I can post the next week's question, but really I would like all of us to get involved and to be fair there should be some kind of system or protocol. I have to leave that up to others. The quiz was my idea, yes, but I am not in charge. David has so much free time on his hands (ha!), let our Chief be the referee. Gives him something to do! (sorry David, couldn't resist!) The “Lucky” number question is too easy and I consider it better it to be for genral interest. Everybody knows it really, but for the ones who don't I give them a hint to lend a helping hand and point them towards the right direction. It is somewhere between sixteen and eighteen. I am sure that secures more correct answers. Obviously wrong answers will be discarded!

People love their freedom of choice and so did Errol, one cannot force people, in this case our members to participate. Who is interested in a quiz will do so for the fun of it and others want.
On this blog we have one common interest “Errol”, but there where the common interest stops. We are all individuals who have likes and dislikes and there are many people who dislike quizzes.
So let's have some fun with it – who like to have this kind of fun!
I think you are a big tease (joke)!
Anyway, as you are not putting the “Lucky Number” on the Quiz Page and you are saying it is seventeen how do you know that or on what are you basing it?
I say that Errol's “Lucky Number” was “9” and I can proof it!

Errol definitely hated the Warner “system”. that is quite obvious and written about numerous times. As I cannot precisely remember in which book I read it, I didn't want it to be a Quiz question but just for general knowledge. When I have time, I will find the book, the page, and the chapter where it was mentioned.
Yes, I appreciate not everybody has time or the inclination to participate in quizzes, but it was an idea to get as many people really getting involved, I think personally the result is quite good, but to be fair it is only an opinion, right?
Now, if you state (with evidence as well!) it was 9, please enlighten me. That I didn't know. We must note that not everything written about Errol or by Errol himself was all true. People, authors etc. did speculate here and there as EF was an enigma in itself, a very complicated character full of insecurity.
Coming back to EF's lucky number, I use it myself quite often with adequate results especially at the Casino in Marbella or Torrequebrada. Now, I call that pure dedication to.
I like you to comment on this, Tina, please go ahead. I haven't debated with you yet, right? So, lets' debate. (ha!)

I wrote a long comment yesterday, looks like it went up in smoke. Anyway, I try to condense it. I read that EF's lucky number was 17 a long time ago. When I have spare time (which is rare these days!) I will dig it up out of a book and will confirm it then. Interesting to know you have evidence it is number 9. Didn't know that. Well, when I go to the casino in Marbella or Torrequebrada I often use number 17. Probably it is purely coincidental, but it does show good results when I am there.
Anyway, look forward to discuss/debate matters with you.
We must not forget authors or other people writing about Errol, or even Errol himself, didn't always tell the truth and often added a bit of fantasy to their stories. So, who is right I don't know. Only our hero knows.

For what ever reason your two posts about Errol's “Lucky Number” have no reply button, at least not on my computer in order for me to reply, so I use the next one available.
Errol's Lucky Number!
There are numerous ways to establish lucky numbers and the Internet is most helpful in finding various ways to establish that if one wishes to go into a cumbersome research, which doesn't interest me to spent time on.
The most popular finding of ones Lucky Number is the date of birth.
Errol had the luck of the perfect number, due to his date of birth!
To establish ones Lucky number from the date of birth one adds up the date to a single digit number:
20.6.1909 = 9 i.e. (2+6+1 = 9) or (2+0+6 +1+9+0+9 = 27 – 2+7 = 9)
In this calculation and others one never needs to add up or include the number 9, as number 9 is the perfect number and so is zero it adds up always to the same result as given in my second example.
The birth number being the perfect number is the most luckiest one – as there is no adverse number. With that I mean: if your single digit birth date number for example is 3 the number 6 is your adverse number. Everything goes back to the perfect number 9 – (3+6=9) With adverse I mean the following: Calculate the date of the day – like today – 3.4.2011 = 11 = 2, which is a neutral day for the person with number 3, but tomorrow would be the lucky day to start new projects, invest money or do other important things as they will turn out lucky. Now never do anything like stated before on a date which give a 6.
In Errol's case he had no “down – adverse ” number, which is alone extremely lucky. Then he was born on a Sunday, (a Sunday's child) another stroke of luck!
And then to top it all he was born at 2:25 = 9 is this freaky or not?
Then when you ad up his birth date in a column, which goes for anybody, the sum will give the most profound year of when ones most important life event will take place.
1909 + 20 + 6 = 1935 you see what I mean – Captain Blood!
His date and hour of birth shows that he will be a very SPECIAL person indeed!
He did get a start of each way, which way, his own way!
If he would have lived in a loving household who knows what wonderful other things he would have accomplished. It is a great pity that he had to grow up in a dysfunctional family life, which brought him so many psychological maladies and physical one too (Malaria) he had to fight all his life. But that's all another cup of tea!

You are right that six is a perfect number but not in this connotation.
In the case of calculating ones birth number, which supposed to be ones lucky number the method appoints 9 as the perfect number as there is no adverse number present.
When you calculate any amount of digits in a row to a single digit the number 9 is the perfect number, because you don't need to count it as the result with or without it is the same.
i.e. 6+3+9+5+2+1+9+6+4 = 45 = 9
take same figures and omit the number 9 out of the calculation:
6+3+9+5+2+1+9+6+4 = 27 = 9
That is all I can explain for this scenario! Many years ago somebody explained this to me. It even might be on the Internet, I don't know, but it works.
For instance in my year number – I experienced an event that turned my life. And for my daughter – she won the overall Sports Championship trophy for the province. Who knows what is what, maybe something happened to you too? Try to remember!

It is the opposite number of your lucky number i.e. if your birth date single digit number is 3 the adverse number is 6 — as 3+6 =9.
if it is 5 the adverse number is 4 — etc.etc.etc. O.K.

Just scrolled down all those comments, No, I never like to copy anyone in life, as it is a futile pursuit but innovating yes. I know for a few years now that Errol had his own shape of Qmark, I sent David a photo once which he placed on the blog a while ago. Just like Errol himself, not knowing this at the time of course, I designed my own QMark a long, long time ago which I have on almost all of my shirts, dress shirts and a few T-shirts. When I noticed an article about Paul Perceni (hope I spelled it right!) he also wore his own Qmark on his shirt, very similar to mine. Errol's was thinner and a different shape. I have a lot in common with EF, (heavy drinking, swearing and smoking like a trooper, kleptomaniac, insomniac, inventing practical jokes etc.) and first of all I dislike authorities as they all think they are THIN GODS! Also I intend the divert from the normal and concentrate on the unusual. When I found out about his own designed embroidered Qmark on his suits and shirts I was so glad that we had that in common as well.
