Errol's application for American citizenship!

26 Mar

Here is Errol's application to become an American!
Which was made on May 9, 1936 or December 20, 1938 not clear to me on this record.  Maybe some of you fellow members can decipher this one?

Did he forget the date he married Lili – maybe he wanted to that?  So, when did he get married? Is it really May 5, 1935 as he states in this application or as so many records say otherwise – that it was June 19, 1935? Another noteworthy declaration on this application is –  as stated here – that he lived already in May 1936 at 601 North Linden Drive.  Did he live there with Lili?  Was this not his Bachelor Pad with David Niven? There are nothing but questions – leave it to Errol and there are nothing but  riddles! Is there anybody able to shed some light on it?

Maybe, but ever since I read this, I thought that in some instances, there is a greyish shimmer in them. At least on some photographs. And remember that Nora called them “green”…

I think I mentioned it once already in a post that his eye color used to change depending on his mood, but mostly they where golden – tan color with golden specks. The color of his hair fitted his eyes. I think in all his color movies only in Don Juan they came close in color on the screen.

I didn't read this post, Tina, so thanks for telling it again. “Tan color” sounds very poetic. My favourite term was amber-brown…
Here's one where I thought they looked greyish:

And here one where they are tan color or amber colored:

Here is a picture which is the closest to his true eye and hair coloring!

His eyes look brown to me, for some reason.

You have more skills than me – but thank you!
The picture you show with gray eyes I think they call that Hazel. For instance there is hardly a picture which shows his true hair color if any – except the one I show you. Clothing reflects on eyes too in photographs and many other things.

Wow — thanks for sharing this with us here, Tina! How interesting this is! :-)
Hmm, so for race he put “Irish”, and for nationality he put “British” (not Australian or Tasmanian). And for his place of birth he put “Hobart Australia” instead of “Hobart Tasmania”. Very interesting.

    Hi Rachel;
Good to have you on board again!
I think they maybe referred to as “race” quite possible to the country of original origination as Irish is not a race – Caucasian would be the race. British Nationality is correct as in those days Australia, Canada and many more countries belonged to England and were the Colonies of England, therefore British by Nationality, but he was Australian because this was the colony (country) of his birth. Tasmania is part of Australia as Hawaii is part of the USA. A so called Province or state of Australia.
You are very observant – great quality! But what about all the other things, like his marriage date? That to me is quite “Funny”, amongst other things. Maybe we should call him Errol “Riddle” Flynn!
    Ha-ha-ha!
    Take care, Tina

Yes, thanks for the explanations, Tina. And I did know that Tasmania is part of Australia, so everything you've said makes sense. :-)
Yes, Errol “Riddle” Flynn indeed. Well, he did adopt that squarish question mark as his personal symbol after all. :-)

So he did Rachel – yes, so he did and most likely for a good reason, but just another riddle!

It's strange that on all other photos, his hair colour is so much darker than on yours. Even the eyebrows – if you compare the one with the greyish eyes. So should they ALL have rendered the colours falsely and he was actually much more to the “blonde” or light brownish side? Hm…
