The answer is Yes, but No. The yacht used in the movie supposedly was the FAVORITA.
The FAVORITA was a clipper ship, built in 1862 in Mystic, CT. The ship’s first owner was J.A. McGaw. The FAVORITA was rated at 1231 tons, and dimensions were 188′ x 37′ x 24′. The ship was built to trade between its home port of New York, San Francisco, and the United Kingdom. She was sold in 1874 to Pray & Dickens, also of New York, and to German owners Schilling & Meinke in 1879. The FAVORITA continued to trade until 1891, when it was reported to be hulked in East Africa.

My question to you Flynnmates now goes like this: With the boat looking exactly like the ZACA, could it be that many photos on the net of Errol`s sailor pride actually depict the FAVORITA?

There are many so called ‘Look-alikes” but each yacht has it’s distinct individuality.
Look at the helm of the IDUNA as per your video at 54.04 to 07 from the Monte Carlo movie with Marlene Dietrich and then look at the Zaca helm. Also look at the different stern arch curvation!

Dear Tugboat Tina, taking about blurred visions. I have been aboard the ZACA A TE MOANA in 2011. As soon as I saw that two masted schooner in Villefranche, I swam 2 miles through the port (don`t do this at home Flynn kids!) to be granted only a breather on deck by the Skipper while the owner was on a land trip. At that time I thought to have visited the original ZACA, but infact the ZATM is a much bigger rebuilt version out of Amsterdam. I learned that only later on!

Twains, there is hope on the horizon. A friend of mine, René Meester, the Skiing Dutchman, is an avid sailor with a keen eye for detail. Here is what he lets us know comparing the FAVA to the ZACA:
“My contribution to the discussion whether the Zaca is the Favorita as well: comparing pictures of both I see 3 diffences: the Zaca’s spanker sail – the sail at the back of the boat) extends further back even over the stern while the Favorita’s spanker sail is shorter; the Zaca has the main cabin a bit more forward than the Favorita, and there’s a difference in the pattern of the round windows in the hull. So the two boats are definitely not the same. Which boat then was used in the movie ? I leave that mistery to be resolved by others…..”

Are not the arches on the sterns different, also? …Which would be a clue in re the movie, too.
