Errol at the Derby?

07 May

It’s a good bet Errol made it to a Kentucky Derby or two, but I have yet to track any evidence. Anyone know??

      He was only there once that I know of in 1956. He took a chance and betted on King O’ Swords but he came in 9th.

        twinarchers, that is a great discovery! And King O’ Swords is the perfect name. How could Errol not bet on him! Too bad Invalidator bumped him out of the gate.

        I would love to read details of Flynn making it to Churchhill Downs. Do you know of any articles or other sources you could link us up to? That would be great. Thanks, twinarchers.

      That’s a fab way of putting it, strawberryheinzforever. Very few know that if not for Never Say Die winning the ’54 Derby at Epsom, The Beatles may well have never been. That ‘s the race that led to rock ‘n’ roll at the Casbah. In other words, Our Man Flynn was at the event that led to the founding of the Fab Four. Go figure.

        Please note that the building depicted above is mistakenly identified as the Dakota. The building depicted is actually one block north of the Dakota on Central Park West.

      HI Heinz;
      You are right it was June 2, 1954, and it was at the Royal Derby at Epson Downs in Surrey.
      Here are the two pictures I have.
