    Hi Tina,
    Funny this one should come up as it is right at the top of my pile of British film magazines. It is actually dated right at the top of the cover, it is from November 2nd 1940. There is a double-page spread of Virginia City where Errol's performance is described as breezy and dashing. The film was given a 3*** rating.
    Other interesting tidbits from this issue:
    Olivia De Havilland and James Stewart: Destined for marriage, “they have 'that look in their eyes'. The look of eagles, lovers and winners”
    Robert Newton fresh from his performance as Joe Varwell in 'Yellow Sands' (sounds familar) and about to be seen in Major Barbara with Wendy Hiller.
    There is also a rather nice little article entitled 'When Star and Character Actor Share the Spotlight'.
    best wishes,
    Brian.

    Hi Brian, a 3*** rating sound good at first look, but out of how many stars? In the last artile you mentioned, did they also analyse Errol as a Star?
    By the way, I forgot to give you a role in our William Tell Revival Scenario (Look at the bottom of the comments on “Cruise of the Zaca Quiz Question”). What would you like to do there? I thought you might take turns with the other three in offering guided tours?

    Hi Inga,
    It was rated out of 4**** – so three isn't bad. I love Virginia City, much more sedate than Dodge City but just as good. I think I must be one of the few people who actually likes Miriam Hopkins role in this film too.
    I have no idea about the William Tell scenario… will take a look but I'm very pushed for time at the moment. My one luxury these days is browsing on this site. I haven't forgotten about the next installment of TFOEF fanzine… will be over to you soon.
    best wishes,
    Brian.

    Yes, that's really not bad. And I guess you are indeed quite the only one to get warm with Miriam in that role.. I can't… Looking forward to hearing from you, but no need to hurry. Take care!

    Hi Brian;
    How wonderful that you have the magazine and thanks for adding the extra information. I couldn't read the date so I will add it if you don't mind a little plagiarism – ha-ha-ha!
    Have a great day,
    Tina
