“Introduced at the 1955 Turin Motor Show – the Lincoln’Indianapolis was badged as “An Exclusive Study by Boano Torino.” The futuristic design was inspired by jet aircraft of the day. The result was a flamboyant, bold and yet elegant. Its orange color certainly made it stand out!”

“Henry Ford II had just recently taken control of the company from his father and was anxious to bring the company into a modern era. He supplied Boano with a Lincoln chassis and asked for a show car to be produced. Introduced at the 1955 Turin Motor Show, the Lincoln “Indianapolis” was a futuristic design – flamboyant and bold. The result was stunning – it was finished in bright orange with a black-and-white checkered interior. The “Indy” was sent to the United States and later, Henry Ford II gave the car to his friend Errol Flynn.”

There is zero photographic evidence that the Indianapolis was built at the behest of HFII. It was a roller so HFII couldn’t have driven it, nor could have Errol Flynn. It never had an drivetrain. It was not badged at a Lincoln at Turin and wasn’t show with the Lincolns. All of the auction house write ups are filled with winks and nods, not proof.

It’s a legitimate show car, why lie about its origins? Ford Archives has no record of it. Nor is it mentioned in any biographies of HFII and Errol Flynn. I don’t believe they were friends.

Hi Barry. You are right, if there was no media coverage, there is not much to it. Errol at that time was up for testimonials, like with Mercedes in Germany. Are you familiar with Oldtimers? If so, can the car below possibly be a Frazier Nash!?
