ERROL MENTION ON MARPLE EPISODE

30 May

I was watching the “Pocketful of Rye” episode from the recent MARPLE series and there's a great scene where Miss Marple charms the local inspector into letting her help with the case by commenting how handsome he is and telling him how much he resembles Errol Flynn.  The inspector happily strokes his Flynn-esque mustache and, of course, allows Miss Marple to help with the investigation.

    It's amazing how often a reference to Flynn is made in movies and TV shows, isn't it?

    on a completely different note, it's interesting how Errol was never able to conceal his genuine feelings for his co-stars from the camera (ie. Olivia D, Allen Hale). When he was on camera with a beloved friend, you could see the warmth and tenderness in his eyes and his protective, caring posture; when he was with someone less than friendly, you could see his heart retreat behind a shield of shyness (ie. Betty Davis). Just something I've noted over and over. He never really could hide his true feelings from the camera.

    Yes, and I always wonder who but us notices these references! Thanks for mentioning this, Jeff!

    Hi Maria;
    What a great observation and how true it is!
    Take care,

    It truly is amazing how much reference is made to Errol in all sorts of media backgrounds. It was tried to overshadow it but the success of it was minimal. His name stands for greatness in so many ways!

    We should see if we can come up with how many movies he is referenced in one of these days. I was surprised the other day to hear his name pop up in Rope during the dinner party scene. He realy was everywhere for a time. He is even referenced in the cartoons (not just the classic Rabbit Hood). The other day the boys were watching Daffy Duck who was lamenting, “What's Errol Flynn got that I haven't.”

    I think you're just the person to begin compiling that list! Anyone here second that?

    Hi Patricia!
    Which cartoon is it where Daffy says that? What's the title of the cartoon?
    It seems Daffy is a big Flynn fan…just watch “Robin Hood Daffy” and “The Scarlet Pumpernickle” (he mentions Errol's name 3 times in this latter one). :-)

    Hi.
    I quite agree that Daffy is a huge Flynn fan. His name comes up alot.
    Now I have to start watching the cartoons to get you the title. Or at least listening to them. I was driving my boys a few weeks back and Daffy said that line. In fact, Porky has said it also. I will start the cds after the current movie and jot down the title for you.
