Mail Bag! Who is who with Tiger Lil?

01 Oct

Ada here,

I am sending along the first of two pix of, I assume, one of your favorites, Lily Damita.

This one, I am not positive about.  I believe it was  taken by Errol during a trip to Catalina Island approx July 7th, 1938, during the holiday week when Errol was off.  I can identify no one except Lily. Do you have any info on this shot?

I’ll toss it out to the world, Ada! Very nice, rare candid …

I have no clue, but a Zaca Vue again. See the schooner in the background…

    Great find, Ada! Thanks.

It’s nice to see Lili with a rare unstaged look. Good to see her enjoying herself. From her somewhat quizzical expression, I wouldn’t be surprised if Errol’s was acting up and having a few laughs himself.

Thank you for your responses…and for the “Zaca Vue” comment, I can only say… a quick study reveals, the yacht in the background is single-masted and only about 65′ to 70′ long. This would help clear up any confusion.

Many thanks for the pic Ada! There is a two master waiting in the wings behind the boat in the Background slightly to the left. A longshot in the longshot so to speak. Maybe the second photo will clear things up. But never mind, I have been seeing the Zaca everywhere…www.theerrolflynnblog.com…

This is straight off the top or bottom of my mind, the man on the left looks like crew to me. The 40ish looking man next to hm behind the unknown woman looks like my mother’s brother.. .weird! The man with glasses looks familiar, man next to him no idea at all and the young man on Lilli’s left looks strangely familiar. Love these old black n whites, makes you wish you were there in the wonderful summertime!
