Interesting News for The Errol Flynn Blog…

11 Jun

Dear Members of The Errol Flynn Blog, I have discovered some interesting news that concerns all of us at the blog. While seeking some information about a prematurely closed ticket of mine at the support desk for this blog at Domainmonger, I received the following reply:

Sorry that was closed. We just learned that our blogging platform is
closing up shop in a few months. We are working on a method to move
clients over to wordpress blogs, and will be getting back to you in the
next 2 weeks with that option. Until then, there nothing to do about the
spam issue, but the wordpress platform should fix this problem.

So it seems we will be moving!

I do not know what this means exactly for the style of the blog we are accustomed to or the functions we enjoy here as opposed to what will be available at the new home of The Errol Flynn Blog, but it is inevitable that we are going to seek shelter in a new harbor…

I will let you know more about the move as soon as I am offered the option to move us over to WordPress. I see no alternatives here, at the moment. We have four years of posts, comments and photos accumulated on this blog, and all of it will have to be exported to a new home! This may not be a difficult job for Domainmonger to accomplish but time will tell…

We'll make the transition as easy as possible for everybody, and I will let you all know what is happening and when as soon as I get the details of the process from Domainmonger. Meantime, we sail onward…

Thanks, Everybody! According to a brief second email from the Support Desk at Domainmonger, they expect all of our files and photos and comments to move over intact! Our people are talking to their people, as they say here in the USA. I won't have any more news for about two weeks, apparently. They did say their blogging platform will be shut down in a few months so we could still be here up until that time, I just don't know – but wherever the winds blow, that is where we will head to… together!

    Hi David;
Sounds like good news! One question – will the website maintain it looks and all the features?
    Take care,
    Tina

First, many thanks to David for creating this blog. And for to the participants who have been enthusiastic and insightful with so many of their posts. I like Jan's comment that “In life one has to be flexible as no day is the same.” The WordPress blogs are very easy to manipulate and there are different ways to categorize the postings. They are not unlike Blogger which is what I use. Of course I'm technically challenged to begin with LOL! Whatever assistance is needed during the transition just ask. best to all.

Tina, I am not sure that the same theme we use here will be available as a wordpress theme but most blogs have the same sorts of functionality and features. WordPress has thousands of plugins that allow many kinds of features to run and we will have to just wait and see what will be offered to us – I certainly don't expect to lose any features. In fact, I hope to gain some! Time will tell!

Thanks, Tom! Your excellent blog is a great example of what a blog should be, and I may indeed have question or two for you as we transition! I am familiar with wordpress from working with other people's blogs a bit, and would appreciate any tips from your experiences at Blogger!

I am doing a little homework now in anticipation of the move and it should be exciting! I will miss the old homestead, I am sure – it has its quirks, but we are all used to them! Like living in an old house in which you know all the familiar corner and noises at night. I will miss it!
