Maureen O Hara film festival

20 Jun

On saturday I attended the Maureen O Hara film festival in Glengarriff its about a five hour drive from where I live but it was worth it. they screened “The adventures of Robin Hood” with an introduction by Rory Flynn who spoke about her father's early life before Hollywood, she read out a letter from Errol to his father in the letter Errol writes that he has had enough of his life in and around Australia New Guinea and he is embarking on a round the world trip which will finally end in England .

According to Rory Flynn this was a pivotal time in his life he told his father that and Im paraphrasing here, that you spent most of your time working to earn money to spend and only a very small time enjoying the benefits, so in this letter he more or less has made up his mind to grab life and live life to the full and not waste a minute of it and that he really didn't care about money.

I met and spoke to Rory Flynn she is such a nice person she has a very gentle quality about her and she very kindly signed my copy of her book

I happened to sit beside two Ladies who had never seen Robin Hood after the movie they said it was a terrific movie and Mr Flynn “was just too handsome and what a smile he had”

I enjoyed the whole experience and hope to attend next year

well I never thought that when I bought her book sometime back that I would meet her in person
and get her to sign my copy of it she is a lovely person and even the staff at the eccles hotel where she is staying said she is a really nice person to deal with even when the screening was over
she spoke of the special things her father did for them as children and even though she has watched “Robin Hood hundreds of times she still gets emotional I have to say she is a lovely speaker and personally I think her father would be quite proud.

Did they also show the Movie “Against all Flags?” I like that movie very much! Maureen was great in it.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us and I do hope we see you much more often here on the blog.

    Hi Tina
Im afraid Against all Flags is not been shown, however Gentleman Jim and Four's a crowd are being
shown later this week the festival goes on til the 26th of this month I would love to have stayed but
commitments at home . It will be an experience I will remember all my life, hopefully next year Iwill
be able to stay longer. thank you for your kind words, I met a girl there from Italy we got into a
conversation about EF and she told me she met none other than Olivia De Haviland she said she was a fantastic lady and that particular day Olivia had traveled on her own she said both Maureen O Hara and Olivia were very strong women and both were feisty to this day they had some fantasic photos of EF on the walls as soon as I get my camera problems sorted I will post the few I have taken.

    Hi Lesley;
This is sure a great festival being stretched over for so many days and also good to hear that it will be an annual event. Your Italian acquaintance is right Olivia and Maureen have to strong women to accomplish the fame they did.
I sincerely hope you solve the problem with the picture upload as it would be the greatest to see some pictures!
By the way, I have Rory's book with a very nice inscription from her. I find her signature is somewhat similar to Errol's.
Looking forward to your next post,
    Tina
