In a Galaxy Far, Far Away

29 Dec

Tammy, Tammy, Tammy is gone.

How terribly, terribly sad. One of the last true greats from Hollywood’s Golden Age has died, only a day after her daughter, also a film legend.

Around the time of her playing Tammy, there was discussion of Debbie Reynolds costarring with Errol, following his own great success in The Sun Also Rises. This was all circa the time Liz ran off with the Louse, leaving the unsinkable Debbie with two Fisher toddlers, Todd and Carrie. Carrie, of course, achieved immortality of her own starring in Star Wars with spacebuckler Hans Solo, a character inspired by Errol himself. Except for Harrison, they are all now in a galaxy far, far away. Godspeed to all of them.

What a great video, Heinz. Thank you. … I met Debbie Reynolds at the then new Omni Hotel in San Diego, at Horton Plaza, in 1989, or maybe 1990. Just she and me in an elevator. Unbeknownst to me, she was in town performing The Unsinkable Mollie Brown. She was so smiling and kind yet clearly very strong. A very fun touch of mischievous, too. The scene in your YouTube video, from about 12:12 to 13:50, is much how I remember her on the elevator. So sad people like her cannot live forever.

Errol, Lucy and Debbie. All in the same boat now, with shameless sharks a’circlin .

Wow, I call that tenderly trapped, Elevator Tim. A smile can last a lifetime. True talent like Debbie Reynolds doesn`t have to reside to arrogance to underline their everlasting legend: www.youtube.com…
I wonder what the pondered project involving her and Errol was?

I don’t know if there was a working title or exact storyline of the project, shang, but I did read it would have involved Errol playing a reformed alcoholic. I suspect Debbie may have brought out the best in Errol, but it would have entailed too much, too late

Errol and Janet Leigh at one of Debbie Reynold’s early fundraisers with The Thalians’, their 1956 Easter Show @ The Beverly Hills Hilton.

OMG my exact words out of my mouth when I heard the news! Taammy Taammy Taammy is gone…. that’s how I will remember her as I was a tween-ager when I first saw the movie As for our darlin Princess well, at that time she was a very sexy lady and indelibly scribed into our consciousness forever as Leia….. Her bother Todd I remember in the early 80’s as a preacher out of the box and into the right spirit of God.

Saw a masterpiece of a movie tonight – LA LA Land. Gosling and Stone are astonishing, with lots of shots from Hollywoodland, many that were part of Errol’s world, indoors and out – from Warner Brothers to the Hills. Ryan said the movie was inspired in part by Debbie Reynolds and her great films, like Singing in the Rain. Btw, Gosling is quite a dancer and pianist, which I found quite surprising, and something I think will greatly enhance his stardom and legacy.

Key scenes in the Smoke House, and, if you look real close, you’ll see Errol himself just off the Boulevard in the classic mural below. That’s Emma walking in to what turns out to be the Smoke House.
