What 1 actor…

05 Jan

also appearing on the Perry Mason series, has a most unusual connection to Flynn. A quadruple threat in the arts: stage, screen, radio and (of course) television. Pondering the full import of his name, gives a strong indication as to not only a special location, but also its special contribution to a MOST SPECIAL film. Any one up for a SPECIAL challenge this evening?

Is it possibly Richard Erdman who was in Objective Burma with Errol and in a number of Perry Mason episodes and is still alive I believe.

Good guess Bob, but… Erdman, who IS still with us, would be way too young to be this person I am thinking of… I should have put more EMPHASIS on the word “full” in my originally composed challenge…

You ARE white hot… Lt. Tragg would want you on his team outsmarting Mason, and… you are half way there!

Bob- You have put forth a mighty effort on this… to have picked up the trail on Ray was no small feat.

      I have 2 additional clues:

Think of his FULL given name, and then ponder the information in this photo to see what you might up with!

Well done Sir Knight, “but not too many mind, else we’ll have nobody left to till our land or pay the tax.”

Raymond BIDWELL Collins whose Grand Aunt gave the land that became know as Bidwell Park, and used in the filming of (most) of the Sherwood Forest scenes for the movie…

(more specifics can be found @: tinyurl.com… )

This section of table preserved and on display in the Butte County Museum, Oroville, California reads in full:

          USED BY WARNER BROS.
          IN FILMING
          ADVENTURES OF ROBINHOOD
          CHICO, NOV, 1937

SO, to bring this ALL back now full circle… also, in it’s own special display is what appears to be a beat up old suitcase of some kind, but~
upon inspecting the information card that goes with it, the inscription simply reads: this case used by Raymond Burr for the television series…

          Good job, Bob!

Karl isn’t it strange how all this interacts. Er(ro)le Stanley Gardner would have been proud of your efforts. You may have missed your calling.Wow

What a great quiz, Karl! A Bidwell Park connection to Errol through Perry Mason! How cool! And what awesome investigation, Bob! Congratulations!! Flynntastic!! We bid thee well.

By the way, here’s another fun connection to P.M. this fine A.M. – The Case of the Celebrity Childen’s Clothier.

The Multifaceted Gail Patrick, pioneering producer and progenitor of Perry Mason on TV, above with Nora & Deidre :

GREAT find GT! The lovely Gail Patrick and ultimate jilted spouse of the classic screwball comedy MY FAVORITE WIFE… hmm, the title sort of sounds familiar.

Here’s just a bit more on the personal side of the “behind the scenes” from both management and star (of the series)… and a final Flynn tie-in to it all.

Here are 2 (of 3) excerpts from Wicki:

“By 1960, Collins found his physical health declining (emphyzema) and his memory waning, problems which in the next few years brought an end to his career… In October 1963 Collins filmed his last Perry Mason episode, “The Case of the Capering Camera”, broadcast January 16, 1964.[2] Although it was clear Collins would not return to work on the series, his name appeared in the opening title sequence through the eighth season, which ended in May 1965. Executive producer Gail Patrick Jackson was aware that Collins watched the show every week and did not wish to discourage him.[27]”

“Burr had a reputation in Hollywood as a thoughtful, generous man years before much of his more-visible philanthropic work. In 1960, Ray Collins, who portrayed Lt. Arthur Tragg on the original Perry Mason series, and who was by that time often ill and unable to remember all the lines he was supposed to speak, stated, “There is nothing but kindness from our star, Ray Burr. Part of his life is dedicated to us, and that’s no bull. If there’s anything the matter with any of us, he comes around before anyone else and does what he can to help. He’s a great star—in the old tradition.”[95]”

And the concluding one from IMDB:

“While working with Errol Flynn, Flynn told him (Raymond Burr, that is) that if he died with ten dollars in his pocket he hadn’t done a good job. This inspired him to always share his wealth with all.”
