        I know your aim is true, PW, but a bit off bass this time. Instead of the six-string, English Elvis, think the four-string, non-British Brian. And instead of of (Bobby) Darin or (Dutch) Darrin), think (John) Cusack.

        But, here’s mo fo ya, PJ: there is this Elvis connection to our mystery fan of Flynn!

          Hi Tim, it is Brian Ritchie but if he moved to Hobart,Tasmania because he is an Errol fan that has for me a big question mark Where do you find this information?
          He maybe moved because he organized in 2009 the Mona Foma or MoFo Music Festival in Hobart and every year since.

            Congratulations, Tina! You Win Again! The Quiz Queen is back!

            Bruce Ritchie’s “fascination” with the Flynnman and interest in Tasmania began in his youth. He became a self-described “very big Errol Flynn fan” from reading My Wicked Wicked Ways, and bios on The Baron, at the old Milwaukee Public library. He “resolved” himself to visit Tasmania at a young age.

            Later, when with his group, the Violent Femmes, he altered the band’s touring schedule to include Tasmania, which he ended up loving and ultimately moved to. This was all due to his being a Flynn fan. MoFo followed.

            The rest, as they don’t say, is no mystery.

              Thanks Tim and also for the article of the Milwaukee Public Library. Very interesting to read and I would assume, which one should actually not do, that the “E” on his bass guitar maybe stand for “Errol”? Maybe he will join the blog? Would be great!

                The ‘E’ is for Earthwood, Tina – a large acoustic bass from the early Seventies largely based on the Mexican guitarron, familiar to those who have seen the street and restaurant bands South of the Border. They weren’t made long, and few play them now, no one better than Brian Ritchie.

                You raise an interesting possibility though. Maybe, to some extent, the ‘E’ being reminiscent of Errol, did help sell the bass to Ritchie. He likely recognizes and enjoys the connection. All he needs now is a question mark and a crowing rooster.

            Perhaps Sammy was just horsing around, PW. He had a pretty good track record until then. … Irregardless (as Doc Johnson would never say), sheer ignorance often leads to blissfully wonderful things. Where would we be without it? Orson makes the point well, at five minutes in, in his almost-always brilliant Orsonwellesian way.
