EF TV- Playhouse 90

22 Mar

Dear fellow Flynn fans,

here`s a little appeTVizer of Errol`s 1957 television outing “Without incident”, a back to the boots western starring Ann Sheridan, John Ireland and Julie London.

Ann steals the scene chanting the English folksong “Greensleeves”, baiting the about- to- attack- Apaches.

    Ya’ateh and Ashagoteh, tomaheinz.

I cannot imagine Errol being involved in any event called “Without Incident”. “Without Precedent”, yes. “Without Incident”, no.

Nevertheless, here he is arriving in Tucson for filming, with an interesting LIFE Magazine story on the location

Annie’s appealing for an Apache attack is indeed interesting. Especially so with Greensleeves, perhaps the greatest British ballad of all time – later used very effectively in How the West was Won, if I recall correctly.

Adding interest is that Julie London was on the charts in London with Cry Me a River during this general timeframe of Without Incident.

So, London was known in the UK, too. Though not so well remembered now, she was Billboard’s Singer of the Year three years straight in the mid-Fifties, predominantly because of her sultry beauty and voice, made known to the world by the tremendous success of Cry Me a River.

For the record, Cry Me a River also featured the jazz guitar master and legend, Barney Kessel, whose step-son, Christian Wand, played all keyboards/synthesizers on “In Like Flynn”, linked below, including the opening fanfare, and the new wave-like parts in the chorus.

Here’s Julie & Barney on Cry Me a River (No “plebeian” performance was this.)

Here’s Christian on In Like Flynn.
